All the good practice goes out the window after the test? Rubbish; go to a country with a poor quality of driver education and you see a poor quality of driving! The UK has a rather well-developed driver education system, and one of the toughest tests, and consequently we have the lowest road deaths (per capita, per vehicle and per mile - doesn't matter how you measure it) of almost anywhere in the world.
I would say that most poor driver-cyclist interactions are down to the driver simply never being informed about how to interact around cyclists.

What planet are you from? Trust me, from daily personal work experience our driver training industry across all categories for the most part consists of bunch of charlatans who train people up to the very low standard that will get you through a driving test (again, in any category)
There are a few exceptions to this rule, but trust me, I have never worked in a driving test centre anywhere in the UK that has more than a handful of instructors out of the raggedy bunch that present people for test that they would recommend to family or friends
The E petition is worth every signature it gets, but a few additional questions in the theory test question bank? hardly counts as driver development

my adaptor was an old Continental valve with the inner removed (the collar and pin you unscrew when inflating the tyre)
screw that into the valve stem, then screw on a standard presta-schrader adaptor, the tube that slime supply then pushes onto it and et voila, job done
there will be a bit of mess so keep rags handy to wipe it up, and when you remove the adaptors you need to get the valve screwed back in asap and pump the tyre up

As title....
Looking at doing LEJOG in the next 18 months, got a rear rack, panniers and rack bag, but looking to add a front rack and some smaller bags to spread weight around and hold light but bulky items
Front fork is standard On One Pompino fork so got eyelets but no mounting point on crown
Would prefer low rider fitting - any suggestions?

Used Slime on previous bike, Continental tubes with removable cores and stripped out an old valve to make a filling adaptor, and Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres did 2500 miles without a single puncture and holds pressure indefinitely - you need to use an old valve attached to a Presta-Schrader adapter as the filling tube provided is meant for Schrader
That was on 700*28 tyres and used 2oz (about 50g) in each wheel, and didn't notice any wobbles or funny handling - new bike has 700*23 and because I didn't have any other bikes that needed treating with Slime I used half a bottle (4oz/100g) in each wheel, and when the wheels are spun by hand there is a definite wobble until the Slime is spun round the circumference of the tyre
+1 for decent tyres as first line of defence though!

My 2012 commuter bike is on ebay with 6500 miles on the clock to make way for a new one in February, the single speed toy I finished building up in November has already racked up nearly 500 miles
2013 is going to be a monster mileage year for me, planning to ride JOGLE or LEJOG late summer, and autumn/winter will involve some major mileage and testing ready for a ride to Egypt Summer 2014 - on top of 150+miles a week commuting

Why do I get the feeling I am going to regret reviving this thread?
New bike comes with 1/8 chainring, 1/8 chain and 1/8 fixed cog, and looking to put a White Industries Dos Eno double freewheel on other side (I don't ride fixed, and having a bit of flexibility in gearing suits what I want the bike to do)
Trouble is the Dos Eno freewheel is 3/32 - with switching between the two cogs chainline may never be perfect, and biggest fear is whether this will be enough to affect drive, or end up derailing chain
1/32 is a tiny difference in chain width, but is it going to screw up my plan for a simple ratio change? next best option is a custom free/free hub (Phil Woods or similar) but the tyres I plan to run are directional so not really an option

Hi All!
Newly joined and itching to start a 'please recommend' thread but know I must be good and abide by the nursery rules :)
Live in Southampton, daily commute (depending on which office I am at) of 11 mile round trip, 24 mile round trip, or a 35 mile round trip
Two rides - flat bar Giant road bike with guards, panniers, marathon plus tyres and all the trimmings which I used to love... now replaced with an old 2009 Kona Paddy Wagon new to me just before Christmas, rebuilt, and now the ride of choice
February/March I will be looking at replacing both with one bike that will do everything, got most of the small details chosen, but need some advice on hubs
Need to be standard 10mm axle, standard width f+r, sealed bearings, and capable of standing up to trail riding/light offroad and long distances, all with a load on rear panniers most of the time, and take a freewheel (flip/flop would be fine)
Any ideas?
And if anyone is up for singlespeed epic to the pyramids in summer 2015 now would be a good time for us to start talking :)
Thanks all - might be dull and stick with Tortec Expedition to match rear rack, seems to have more good than bad reviews on wider web
Blackburn low rider gets the same amount of thumbs up too, so that kind of narrows it down to two choices!
