Retro thanks for the reality check , you are of course right, Its easy to get carried away (snobby) about frames when reading through bike forums! Great article , I doubt many people could tell the difference especially once built up. Geometry plus the skill and style of the builder has a much bigger impact on the feel and look of the frame. I'm switching my main ride from a modern alu frame so maybe getting hung up on weight saving, I guess I should consider leaving that water bottle half full!

Hi Everyone
Im selling this Sugino Super Mighty crankset, which I picked up for my Gitane but later decided I preferred my maxy crank ( but not before I had done a lot of polishing!)
Road crank , 170mm , taper (iso) and threads (14.25) in great condition. A few minor nicks and scratches, nothing really noticeable, mostly from pedals, but nothing that could be sanded and polished out.
I also have tevano rings and sugino bolts somewhere if needed
Ive tried to show everything in the photos but let me know if you need any more info
£75 posted or collection from Bristol
please pm me
cheers!

Hi
So i recently bought a Sugino Super Mighty crankset as an upgrade to my existing Sugino Maxy cranks. They both weigh about the same but the Maxys are swaged to the spider , whereas the Super Mightys are 1 piece forged.
I actually prefer the look of the Maxys , they are a bit narrower and more elegant to my eye, and have no writing on the outside. The Super Mightys have 'Super Mighty' written down each crank arm and the crown logo (see pics)
I have since seen some Sugino Mightys for sale. (see other pic) These are forged like the Super Mightys and have the crown logo but have no writing so look a bit more like the Maxys.
So... does anyone know the difference between Mightys and Super Mightys? Are they the same, but from different eras? Or would I be down grading from the Super Mightys?
btw i pulled these images off the forum for reference as i didn't have a camera to hand so apologies if these are you pics!
can anyone shed any light on this?
cheers
Peter

First off , I'm new to LFGSS so big hi to everyone! It's great to see so many people so passionate and enthusiastic about bikes.
Last year I restored an old Gitane, I beleive is an Interclub, that I bought from ebay. I suspect it had been kept in a shed for some time as was extremely dirty with a lot of surface corrosion but nothing structurally wrong
I stripped the bike completely and rebuilt it which was a great learning experience as its my first vintage bike. After about 3 months of cleaning , polishing and re-truing the wheels its back to some of its former glory! Almost everything is original but I had to replace tyres, rim tape , bar tape , bearings, cables and rear mech.
It now rides beautifully and I have used it on my commute between Bristol and Bath. I know its not a high end bike but have become quite attached to it after all the hard work! . Though I am now looking for higher end Gitane to save a bit of weight ( separate ad posted in wanted)
Anyway would love to hear from any other Gitane owners and their experiences with these bikes

Hi there
First off , I'm new to LFGSS so greetings to everyone! It's great to see so many people so passionate about bikes.
Last year I restored an old Gitane Interclub that I bought from ebay. It needed a lot of work but now rides beautifully and has served me well on my Bristol to Bath commute.
As much as I love this bike the frame is not particuarly light as the Interclub is an entry level model . I would like to upgrade the frame to a Tour de France or Super Corsa model which are usually Reynolds 531 and often have chromed rear stays. If possible I am looking for a frame with the same decals and metallic green colour, which I believe is called a candy apple paint finish (see attached pic of my current bike)
Does anyone have either a frame or complete bike for sale in 56-58cm ?
cheers

Madring it was here, it went for £240.94
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/POGLIAGHI-ITALCORSE-FRAME-FORK-60CM-SERIAL-9328-VINTAGE-1971-/221215470309?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33817832e5&nma=true&si=XvqvNowu5bpoRhVC6FrdAGZFIDA%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Please tell me this one is not worth more than the selling price, I couldn't be bothered to stay/get up for the auction end time of 4am and in my ignorance had not heard of Pogliaghi! Looking again it was probably worth buying for the groupset had it not been for the international postage cost ...
