I haven't seen much Android-love above so whatever API info and ER diagrams I could use to get the app moving? I can check that into whatever the chosen source control solution is once I've got a working prototype.
I've already had one idea for an App-only feature but you might prefer it remain unimplemented. I'll write something up next weekend if I remember.
hmm sounds cool. I always wanted to write an Android app but never had any clue what to write. Oh, I'm very far away though. Still might give it a bash anyway
Not sure if either of you are planning to drop in at the weekend, but if you're both still interested in doing an Android app, could be worth combining efforts?
I've done a smidgen Android development in the past so could help out with very basic things, and of course anything on the API side.
Skype works... and there's probably a collaborative wireframing tool out there that will fit our needs too.

how we got crowd-funded in 15 hours (Seedrs record)...
...how the space seems to be heating up and is very now (Discourse, moot.it, Vanilla, etc)...
I'd wager those are the two a tech journalist would most want to write about (community + competition). Also how much help we've had from everyone already (financial, equipment, time, expertise).
As for being an investor I'd definitely put it down - it shows that a community believed in it and made it possible.

Dammit, Blueprints, if you can spare 2 minutes to fill in my questionnaire, it would be massively appreciated. I’m at the early stage of what I hope turns out to be more than a pipe dream.

If anyone can spare 2 minutes, it would be great to get your feedback. I’m collecting responses outside of LFGSS too (obviously), but if incentivising is needed to get the numbers up, we can discuss bribes.
Thanks all,
Will
Filled it out. It'd be good to know which locations you're sizing up, as I think Colliers Wood might be a bit far out.

Just talking to DK about this... it's almost feels like they're offering what disqus do, but have spun out the idea of comment threads into a larger structure that acts like a forum but is still fundamentally a grouping of comment threads. That's one way of seeing it anyway.
Another thing... it doesn't seem possible to delete comments. (from their about page)
Content is forever
Posts or replies on Moot are permanent. Once they are more than 2.7 minutes old, have any replies, or have any likes, they may not be removed.
I wonder if that means that an identity is always tied to that particular comment, or if they take the reddit approach where you simply see [deleted] where the username was (if you delete the account without deleting the comments).

There's another company in this space: http://moot.it/
I far prefer the look of this over discourse. They're also emphasising search as a feature: something we've thought about a lot and want to implement very well.
Overall it's quite a different beast: no API that I can see, and it seems they're going for the embeddable approach, i.e. easy integration into existing pages. Not sure how they deal with different item types either.
On their "about" page it mentions 3.5 years of development which does seem like a long time.

My observances over the last ten years of working in software with automated test suites is that broken tests get fixed quicker than broken docs.
A good side effect of having the Django project open-source is that all the tests (frontend Selenium and Python tests) will be visible, and as the API changes they'll all have to be updated (as it's what we'll use for the main microcosm web client).
This'll be well documented and readable so even if someone doesn't know any Python/Django specifically they can still get a good picture of what's going on.
I realise that isn't the same as having an API test suite of course, but it will at least demonstrate how a real client uses the API on top of documentation.

Docs are located here by the way: http://microcosm-cc.github.com/
Still work-in-progress of course, but they're looking good.

It's great that there is someone else trying to do things in the same space. Don't forget that Vanilla are a relatively new outfit too (at least compared to vbulletin and phpbb) and are techstars alumni (one of the incubators we applied to).
I think it'll help confirm some of the problems we've encountered with the current software, and show that there is sufficient demand for change.
That said, I think the goals (and hence what we're trying to build) are quite different. I don't think we'll have any trouble differentiating ourselves.

Also... the office has spare desks. As in, if you're a freelancer or programmer looking to base yourself somewhere we have desks for rent in the unit for £150 per month including all taxes, rates, electric, heating, and internet. Come have a look if you're interested.
And the use of a rather nice coffee machine.
We all chip in for beans of course.

Ah, in that case I might have a crack at it over the weekend and open source anything that results from it.
