Thanks - I've tried with a carbon Hylix fork in the past, which was noticeably a bit floppy in comparison. But yeah, is a bit tiring on the hands after a while. Good for short quick rides.

New build - wanted something fixed with road geo and two brakes to use as a nippy lockup beater.

Pretty light and stiff, just what I was hoping for really. SPD-SLs were all I had to hand, but quite handy for riding in normal shoes when needed for pootling about.

Definitely not a fan of 1x for pure road setups in terms of looks and function, but do love the old TT look with a tiny range cassette and a big single ring up front.

It's also loads of people with kids go on holiday during the school holidays, so not just the driving kids to school crowd.*

* Although still the similarly insane driving to work crowd.

Maybe not helpful but might be worth buying a cheap donor bike on eBay?

Often find after buying all the bits separately it works out as costing more than a pub bike should.

This is a really interesting idea... given that the police will do nothing to help, legal hired goons to get your bike back for you is literally the missing piece of the puzzle when you see your bike on eBay and don't have a load of hard/fearless mates.
