Is the tange headset still around? What are the bearing surfaces like?

Hi,
does anyone know where to get/ have a crown race that would fit a tange levin alloy?
mine has gotten indexed but all other bearing faces are perfect and i don't really want to replace the whole headset
alternatively, is taking 1/100th of a millimeter off on a metal lathe a bad idea?

im after an old frame (531 or similar), structurally sound for stripping down and restoring as a project with my dad for some bonding (aww), so paintwork can be scratched to bits, just as long as no serious damage to the tubes.
preferably something like a tatty holdsworth (easier to get the decals?)
not fussy on the size, any will do
