If I hadn't used wood id have used a metal shopping basket. Word on the street is that they cost a lot to make so I wouldn't steal one but they are super tough and the fittings to your bike would break before the basket

ammo boxes look alright and are sturdy but if bent the metal ridges can go out of place and opening them costs falling on the floor in the process and or broken nails

confession time, two back plate screws were not strong enough so i added about a million more, theres more screw than wood i think

bungees work

with a bag of folders on the front its like riding a quad bike where you need brute force to turn it, all in all good fun too ride but and its staying but its quite slow and unresponsive like a decrepit tortoise

didn't have sandpaper, varnish i did (pics to come) a bit tatty-if someone could explain how to varnish without light and dark patches etc, did a drain hole and bungee hooks. Cup holder is a work in progress

personally I think that ss with no brake is the worst

rear brake, could drill a hole and thread the front brake cable through if I want. Its ss though, not into the whole fixed without retention hipster bs

could do drain holes, unsure for now, may also do holes for bungee/bunjie/bungi to go in

Final major update

All technical work is finished, thanks to my mate Ed who helped with the measurements for drilling. due to the drilling is far more secure than anything I've ever made before. It sits just how I wanted which surprised me but I'm glad it did, we rode for about an hour today for a test run along roads, cobbles, towpath, asphalt, grass, inclines and declines with a couple of beers and no problems (I may add a cup holder later on). There is a little bit of flex but that is the jubilee clip. I will varnish it soon too.

Second update

Box assembled ready for drilling, the extended lip on the left hand side of the picture is to stop it front rail slipping out. As drilling into the side of plywood is wrong (Its worked twice for me before for some reason but I will stop now) I added blocks for the screws to go in.

First update-Skeleton completed

I had to buy some metal plates to attach the bolts to and there was space in-between so as always I filled it with old inner tube. Structurally it feels sound bearing in mind that the force will be pushing downwards. It does slide forward but I will put lips on the bottom of the box to stop this happening
