Arendsnest
Beer temple
de prael brewery
Browerij 't ij
Cafe Soundgarden for a decent dive bar
Cafe Gollem
In De Wildeman
Cafe De Tuinetc etc etc theres plenty of good brown bars dotted around, plenty of shit ones too though.
de Ton Ton club is worth checking out, just so you can drink a beer, play daytona and check out the red light windows all the same time, although i think theyve rearranged since i left so the arcade games are in the back.

Vegabond or dop hert, Dop hert is kind of out of the way though, so probably vegabond(which is only a short walk from RLD and most of the touristy stuff. If its a nice day they have a terrace that looks over canal as well which is really nice. I moved away from AMS about 4 months ago so there may be more things that have opened since then that are worth a look.
Where are you staying?
If you're a coffee fan I can hook you up with all the good places to visit as well...
-
Amsterdam (in no particular order):
Dop Hert
Koffie ende Koeck
TerraZen
Vegabond Cafe (also a vegan supermarket)
Bolhoed
De Vegetarische Slager (market "the vegetarian butcher")
Golden Temple
Maoz Falafel (veg but im pretty sure also vegan options)
De Vliegende Schotel (just moved to bos en lommer)
Back to black cafe (everything vegetarian, sometimes vegan stuff)Albert Heijn is starting to get mock meats and soy products more and more, as is Jumbo but the selection is still limited, for that sort of thing go to the vegatarische slager. Nothing is super expensive on that list and its all reasonable to good quality. Theres a few more but I haven't eaten at them.

Finally getting into a groove with my AeroPress. It's taken me ages tbh, the first 20 or so cups I made with it were proper wazz.
I don't have the time or inclination to go full retard with the weighing scales and that, but for a casual home drinker I've now got a fairly-repeatable technique down;- Prepare AeroPress in 'inverted' setup with the plunger pressed in between 3 and 4, and put in 1.5 scoops of medium-coarse ground coffee (I buy beans from local posh organic shop and grind it on the shop grinder between the 'Filter' and 'Coarse' setting).
- Put paper filter in the little 'mesh' holder, sitting it over intended coffee cup.
- Boil kettle, pour half a cup of boiling water through paper filter, leaving the water to warm up the cup a bit.
- Wait 30 seconds after kettle has boiled to begin pouring water over coffee. I fill it up past the 1 mark, to almost full.
- Gently stir for 20 seconds using paddle.
- Attach filter, and leave the coffee to brew for 1 minute. During this minute I empty the hot water out of the cup and put a little sugar in.
- Carefully flip the whole AeroPress over onto the cup (I do this right by the sink) and steadily plunge. Takes no more than 20 seconds. I see the water push its way right through the coffee. I stop the moment I hear the sound of escaping air.
That's it. Content, for now.
split your pour. You should always bloom your coffee. Do 30ml first, mix the coffee through gently so its all wet, wait 20-30 seconds, add the rest of your water, off you go. Your extraction time also seems short if your coffee is that coarse.

Depends on their stock levels of other beans too. If its a roaster, they certainly wont be ordering decaf beans on their own. It maybe on a pallet waiting for their next delivery. At a roaster I used to work at we used to roast about 1.5kg of decaf a week. Half would go to customers as bean sales, half would get used in the cafe. At the roaster I work at now we dont roast decaf, but only get asked a handful of times a week from customers.

Best coffee I've had was in Melbourne, imo they beat London for quality. there are big names like Proud Mary that won't fail to provide something great (like the Brazil late harvest COE I had earlier in the year), but there are also some smaller places that are putting out fantastic coffee without the massive cues. Overall the price is pretty low, and a big difference with London is most of the specialty coffee stores/roasteries also serve decent food too.
Now I'm living in Amsterdam, my favourites would be:
Espressofabriek (Westergasfabriek/Ijburg)
Coffeebru (Oosterpark)
Headfirst (Vondelpark)
twoforjoy (Harlemmerbuurt)Next spot I'll try is Scandinavian Embassy, which I've heard good things about, and supposedly has an Aussie inspired emphasis on food too.
Try Lot 61(kinkerstraat) and Sweet cup(just near leidseplein) too, both roast in house and have a super passionate crew working behind them (mostly of the aussie and kiwi variety).
Two for Joy also has a location in Frederiksplein at the end of Utrechtsestraat
I miss melbourne coffee.

I'm getting the impression people aren't interested, but if they are, tickets for this are selling pretty quick I think. One of the two nights has sold out already.
Just booked my ticket - face value was £16, total charge was £20 after all the bullshit booking fees etc. Cheers SeeTickets, thieving cnuts.
Im thinking about coming over from Amsterdam to see them. They played here at the end of last year but only as supports for The Hives and no headline shows, doesn't look like any headline shows coming up for them over here either any time soon.
Trying to squeeze Cancer Bats and Clutch into the same night. Two separate shows but at the same venue. Cancer Bats are supporting Enter Shikari who I think are terrible, and Clutch headlining in another room. Im pretty sure I can manage to pull it off.

I'd like to get recommendations of tattoo shops in Melbourne, so I though I'd come to a bike forum in London.
A few people mentioned some places a while back.
I'm after getting some Japanesey stuff done (standard).Ldn4lyf.
Check William Yoneyama at Third Eye Tattoo and Geordie at Tattoo Magic. Geordie would be one of the best in oz for japanesie stuff but youll need to wait. 180 an hour at Tattoo Magic, not sure about Third Eye. Ive been done at TM and I know people who have been done at Third Eye, both are friendly and professional.
