chains back on, but it still doesnt sound amazing. Its like a clicking, like the chain doesnt fit the sprocket (which it should, theyre both 3/32) surely its not a case of replace the lot? its not that old for that kind of wear is it?!
Butters; yeah they are sealed. shouldnt be too much of prob even for me. gonna be next job.

its on the washing line as i type!
closer inspection of the rear hub though reveals that its sticking at one point in its rotation, so i'm thinking the bearings may be shagged. either that or the axle? theyre only joytech hubs, and trawling through here and the rest of the interwebs they get very mixed reviews -

im pretty new to road riding, and i was wondering how long a drive chain is supposed to last?
Ive been riding the same (cheap) one for about six months, and its starting to make some serious noise. i do about 8-10 a work day, with some reasonable weekend rides... is it time for some new parts? i have swapped frames, but the chainline looks fine now, i just want the silence back!

depends on whether you are planning on riding with panniers or credit carding it and staying in B&B's etc.
i'd suggest riding a bike with panniers and camping along the way. if you can fit a rack on the raleigh then go for it.
do a couple of long days in it though before hand to make sure the set up is right for you
thanks man, we're going for panniers and camping, in the most lightweight way we can manage. creditcard is not in our budget (at least not mine) I did 40 miles on the bike today fixed, and pretty happy with it tbh. The bike shop guys almost had me sold on a new bike too! see if i cant scrape together some nice gears together before i take the plunge.

Hi, Sorry if this is a thread hijack, but im not sure where to ask this question.
My brothers asked me to do a LEJOG with him this summer, and currently my only bike is a converted 80s raleigh arena, and I was wondering what bikes are out there for someone on a budget to do it on, or is it possible for me to return the arena to geared and do it on that? -

ok, so here is a pic with everything on so far, as well as the dent in the frame.
The bars are ancient mtb ones, Im looking for some advice on bars please. Thinking about some bullhorns, but with a slight drop. The seats from my DMR rhythm, as will be the pedals, (V8s... classics) Got some wheels on the way too, after MUCH deliberation I went for No Logos, cheap, but ive heard some really good reviews on them. Will post a pick with them on, and of the DMR too when i get some. -
yeah, i did think that, but the bend in the fork is not consistant with the dent in the top tube. i mean, its definitely been crashed, but the head tube doesn't seem bent. Anyway, ordered some parts. I said it was gonna be a cheap one, so here they are in all their ebay glory!
Because the frame is an old raleigh, Ive had to be careful about updating things, and after much consulting of the bike maintenance god Sheldon Browns site, it seems keeping the old BB shell seems to be the best bet. Also as a plus, it would have needed new forks for a decent new front wheel anyway.
second dibs on #4 if its 700
can pick up sunday...
