So I had a crash a couple of months go and fucked up my knee, this kind of put an end to my hopes of building up a new fixed project (Don't worry I still have my road bikes and I'm currently building up an s/s 29er now!). So I am selling a few bits and pieces that I won't be able to use any more:
Brand New & Unused Stronglight Track 2000 Cranks 165mm
Stronglight Track Chainring 48t 144mm BCD
These have been installed onto a BB but never even had a chain put on them! I will chuck in a Shimano 68x107mm BB (again it has been installed in a frame but never ridden) - SOLD![/B]Brand New & Unused Tifosi 1" Threadless Carbon Road Forks
300mm of steerer, 45mm Offset
Again these have been sat in a frame but I haven't even installed a crown race! - **£80**I also have a few more bits to add tomorrow (Along with pictures!) these will include: A Long (think its 120mm) 3T Arx Pro stem and an Mpart threadless 1" headset!
Knees and Crashing both suck!!!!

I have come the conclusion this thread is jinxed for me...
Last time I went to get a tag I snapped my chain and bent my front mech.
Today I left for work planning to get the new tag afterwards and came off on the way to work. destroyed my helmet, ripped my rapha jacket and broke my shoes :( On crutches for 6 to 8 weeks now fml... -
8 spd record would work, and is the only one to my knowledge Campag still make.
Although Miche do make campag 8 spd cassettes as well, so could be worth a look at.There is a possibility though that the cassette and chain might just not be compatible, if they didn't think to check they work together properly it may well be that they have put the wrong chain on.
That Shiftmate thing posted further up is to alter the pull ratio of a shifter, it wouldn't affect the compatibility of campag and shimano cassettes and mechs.
Also for what its worth I wouldn't go back to any bike mechanic that puts a new chain on a old cassette and tells you it will bed in!! Definitely not something that would ever happen in our workshop!

On my way to get the polo statue tag, I snapped my chain and bent my front mech, I didn't even get 2 mins into the ride out there before I had to abandon and push my bike home from Covent Garden home to Elephant and Castle!
Grumpy but I got home and found that someone had already got the tag, so not to bad!
I will get a tag soon... on my s/s bike probably. while I wait for the parts for my geared :( -

Thought I would post in this thread and say hello I haven't been on the forum very much but I'm a bike mechanic, with 44mm stretched ears, 10mm septum and some other stretched piercings! Got some new plugs for my ears last week and riding down Clapham Rd in strong wind and one slipped out and cracked :(
had to do a quick stop and walk back looking for it!Also recently got BIKE PUNX tattooed on the inside of my knuckles (although i guess thats for the tattoo thread)
anyway hello other modded bike people!

Definitely agree with Mechanical Vandal. I recently got my Cycle Systems Level 3 (Brilliant course for what its worth they also included my level 2 for free as well!). But I have worked as a mechanic for 4 almost 5 years before doing the course, the main reason i did it was just to get a bit of paper work behind my skills (and it helps that the shop were happy to pay for it!)
Getting a job in a shop building up new bikes from boxes and working up to proper mechanicing is the way to go!!!

Its worth just going into a shop and talking to the mechanics, hanging out with them...
We get quite a few people asking about this and usually have to say no as its not too easy to teach people/watch over someone while you are trying to do another service. But the ones who we have let into our workshop are always people who've been in before and maybe been riding with us etc.
Also I 2nd 56a its rad and is run by real nice folks!

Seen as people have answered your questions about the refund problems, thought I would try and answer your question about wheel's life spans.
The main thing that deteriorates is the braking surface, a rims braking surface wears down in the same way as brake pads (only over a longer period of miles). A rims lifespan can be prolonged by regularly cleaning it and checking your pads for stuff stuck in them (little stones, etc).It does unfortunately sound like these wheels are past any useful lifespan, which is a shame as if they are looked after Shamals are really nice. I recently replaced the spokes in one for a customer and after stripping the hub and freehub, everything inside was still perfect!
But you can still get pretty much any spares for them, so if a refund doesn't work out and the rim isn't too worn you could maybe rebuild the wheels!
I hope that was helpful!

Awesome, well as long as the race isn't pitted like I described its fairly simple to put it back together with new bearings in the top. It doesn't matter if each side is different as long as all the bearings on each race are the same. Its gonna be pretty hard to measure a bearing exactly without a proper bearing ruler but measure its width in the middle in inches (the most it will be in 1/4" but its more likely to be 3/16") it has to that exact though!

Hey Jack,
Its Tom (Lu's boyfriend) did the circular casing you mentioned look something like this:http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00UsfTEYSGRRqK/Bearing-Cage-Bearing-Cage.jpg
If it is and has snapped, what sort of condition is the actual bearing race in? Are there any marks on it, if so the best thing is just a new headset. But otherwise you can put new bearings (With 1 extra and plenty of new grease) Onto the race without a cage. All you need to do is measure one of the bearings and let me know the size. that way I can bring you them tomorrow!

Haha it's fine I work in a bike shop I'm used to being amazed by the likes of CRC's prices!!
They are silver cranks and a black c'ring.
