I've just had a buckled wheel due to hitting a deep pothole severely hard at some speed. This was around 2 months ago and it finally gave out yesterday whilst on my way home from work ( i couldnt afford to get a new wheel). I had the wheel looked at by a mechanic who trued it and gave it a so-so future life. In my experience if the collision was at all 'severe' by any standards, try and avoid using those wheels at all if possible. When my wheel buckled yesterday it gave out the loudest bang i have ever heard, like a gunshot, followed by a huge jump in my front wheel. Had the lights i had been stopped at been green, well lets just say I would probably be lying in a hospital bed right now, or worse. Don't risk it.
Sounds like you may also need a new headset as you mention it doesn't tighten no matter what you do.
As Vesalius, sounds like your bike is in need of some thorough inspection but as always visual inspection is better than guesses over the internet.

Hey guys,
Is there anything specific I need to do in order to avoid any embarassment etc. when coming down to herne hill for saturday training. I've never been before so do you just turn up in your bike gear or are their changing facilities there? A very stupid question which i'm sure i know the answer to but just want to make sure it's not a wasted trip. I've had a look at the herne hill website but no mention of it there.
Thanks in advance.
