I've been keeping myself awake on my commute recently by trying to build such a list. I know there's already a thread on RLJing, but I think there's a difference between jumping red lights (most cyclists do it from time to time, know they strictly shouldn't and so it is sometimes accompanied by guilt) and the phenomenon of seeing a red light and knowing in one's heart that for some inarguable reason it has an entirely different meaning for you than it does for others. The feeling that allows people to sail through those lights as if they weren't there.
My list so far (in rough order of prevalence):
Running late.
Promuter (wearing pro kit and thus officially a sportsperson, not a commuter).
Wearing Rapha.
Riding an expensive bike.
Riding a Specialized Allez my-first-road bike
Riding a Boris/Barclays/Santander bike.
Light only went red <5 seconds ago.
Light only went red <10 seconds ago.
Light about to go green again.
On time, but don't want to risk being late.
Currently beefing with all pedestrians.
Feeling threatened by motor vehicle, want to pass fear down food chain.
Self-aware dickhead. -

Spent a week in Mallorca last summer drinking mostly local lager/wine and then found a craft beer available in our hotel bar on the last night we were there. Can't remember the name, I'm afraid.
Turns out there's a reasonably healthy smattering of bars and bottle shops as long as you're in Palma.
Also this microbrewery in Alcudia.
I can recommend the Puig de Randa climb, too.

Thanks Ed - that would be whom, though? Is there even a consensus on which particular cycling body/campaign should be referred to here?
You know how these things work, I'm sure - journo will be looking for some local colour as well as (hopefully not just instead of) getting quotes from representatives of such bodies.

Hi all,
I'm mostly a lurker here, but have been as shocked and saddened as everyone else by the recent spate of fatal incidents. I've just had an email from an Evening Standard journalist looking for a comment specifically on CS2/Bow Roundabout from people working in East London (I work at Rich Mix on the Bethnal Green Road). I know the road and the issues well enough (though it's not quite on my commute) but if the question was 'what should be done' I'm not sure I'd have an answer I was confident was sensible.
So, question is: is there any sort of consensus amongst cyclists about best practice in the actual design of infrastructure like the Bow roundabout and what the design of CS2 got wrong?
I rode through there two nights ago, didn't use the segregated blue path at all and took the flyover, but not sure I'd advise that for everyone...

Anyone able to report if there's anything left at Tottenham before I set off from Bethnal green?
Hi Dan, it's your future self.
Turns out there will be plenty of most of this stuff left in the Tottenham Aldi, with the exception of the men's merino tops. You'll buy some merino tights, a 'compression' top that will make you want to lose a stone when you try it on and one of the winter jackets and form the impression that the quality seems OK.
Also, Tottenham's changed since you stopped working there at the start of the year. It has a Costa Coffee now.
Oh, and we need to talk about your over-sharing on the internet.

As someone who rides past every day on my commute (need to change my username - I now commute from SW2 along the Rio Lycra) can I ask a possibly stupid question?
Is the name of the shop a pun on 'Cyclops'? Or is there another reference/pun I'm missing? I'm not being funny, it just bugs me every time I'm stopped at the lights looking at your sign, like when you see a hairdresser's or florist's or another business in a pun-heavy industry and you're not sure if you're 'getting it'.

I won this one on Ebay, paying £375 - did I do OK?
And does anyone know much about the components on it (Mavic chainset, Modolo brakes)? Not that I'm looking to swap anything out but wondering how good a match to the frame they are, quality and period-wise. Am I right in thinking the frame is very late 80s?
gazelle aa super ... no wishbone stay though
tonyme possibly your size although might be a bit big
Right, first up in my attempt to regain the inside of my shed and have some money left at the end of this month is a Coventry Eagle bike that was my commuter until I came off it a year ago. Hasn't been ridden since.
The frame is butted Reynolds 531 (main tubes) in fine physical and tatty decorative condition. Originally had 27" wheels, mudguards, pannier rack etc but I took those off. These (700c) wheels are both Mavic rims on Shimano Deore hubs. No tyres or tubes, soz. The freewheel on the rear has started 'slipping' as if a few of the splines are worn out, so will need servicing or replacing.
Other components seem to match the bike's vintage of early 80s (?):
Crankset: Sugino (one of the plastic dust caps missing)
Mechs and shift levers: Simplex
Brake Calipers: Weinmann type 730
Brake Levers: Shimano
Stem: SR
Bars: Sakae Custom
I taped the bars with BLB tape, but have since scratched the tape up at the same time as I was breaking my ankle. I re-cabled both gear cables with Jagwires.
Sizing: 60cm seat tube (C-C), top tube is 57.5cm. I'm just short of 6 foot.

Bike is in Leytonstone, and with a bit of love would make a solid commuter/pub bike for years to come.
Does £60 sound fair?
