Hope it's ok if an occasional lurker here turns into an occasional poster?
Have been doing cryptics on and off for 30 years or so, and I'm grateful for the forum bringing Minute Cryptic to my attention. Without being * too * immodest, I've found the clues nice and gentle, and don't think I've needed a hint yet. So I was wondering if forum cruciverbalists might like to also use this thread to share wider crossword stuff - tips on solving, favourite setters, favourite clues etc?

If geographical oddities tickle your pickle, you could ride through the village of Meriden, between Brum and Coventry, which has long claimed to be the centre of England and has a monument proclaiming as much.
On centre of gravity it definitely isn't, but as the furthest place from a coast it has a better shout.

For balance, the municipal art gallery has an excellent collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings and the Ikon gallery punches above its weight for contemporary art (and is celebrating its 60th anniversary).
Heading out of the centre, the MAC in Cannon Hill Park is a lovely little arts centre and the university's Barber Institute is another very tight but well-curated art collection.

Trying to revive this thread after a period of ill health and other life stuff. Sorry about that.
Does anyone want to grab what's left of this box? I'll add some hopefully less-than-completely-worthless bit and pieces to it.
In the meantime, a few items had interest/dibs, but no walk to follow up the talk. In particular, @samrensho if you still want the Rotors, just let me know when you can come and get it.

Don't get me wrong, despite my knee-jerk contrariansim, I'm also ultimately a pragmatist and so I would broadly come down on the side of "fundraisers gonna fundraise".
A lot of this boils down to 'don't ask how the sausage is made'. If you believe in a cause, give money to the biggest charity in that space - they'll have the most influence and hopefully pretty reasonable efficiencies too. But they'll likely pay their CEO more than the Prime Minister, spend money on their staff's wellbeing etc etc. In full transparency, give if you want, don't if you don't.
And remember that ultimately most charities would genuinely like to work to put themselves out of existence, either by eliminating their raison d'etre or by pressuring the government of the time to take the issue on which they focus more seriously (this latter particularly relevant to homelessness charities, of which I've worked for three)

Have you conducted a properly weighted survey to capture the views of Alzheimer's Society service users?
Not sure who this was aimed at but yes, I've been one participant on this sort of research project in the past, including at AS. As I said above, there will have been a basic risk/benefit analysis applied, so it certainly won't have needed a majority of service users to endorse the message in any survey/consultation, just for enough of them to do so to make the overall calculus favourable.
In my experience, spending on paperclips was, in the overall picture, negligible for all charities (with the exception of the PAS or Paperclip Appreciation Society, who spent a frankly obscene amount on them)
Close but not quite. Part of why I like it is that it's self-referential to crossword clue mechanics (i.e what does 'O' sometimes clue for...)
