What do you mean original from new?

This is mine (I bought it like this and haven't changed it as it looks ok, though not my ideal choice), and the brown leather looks ok, though would mean you changing your hoods which feels like a lot of effort/cost

As much as I'm supportive of a (fellow) 'nago restorer...and as someone who was looking to do the yellow cabling on cream frame, this is a bit 'so close yet so far'.
Whether or not those stickers are period correct (I'm a bit out the game to remember, though the look like the stannard 80's Super decals, whereas your frame looks more like a very early one when the Sport was becoming the Super, if you had used the earlier decals (with the smaller downtube Colnago and yellow headtube sticker) I would have been in heaven (trying to find a pic of one that nearly inspired me to get a re-spray). But still nowhere near £1200 heaven.
That era (pre-seatstay pantographing) just isn't as desirable as the Super/Mexico's that followed. In fact I don't think I've seen one go for 4 figures.

Right, photos a bit overdue, but here's the final model.
Packed it up int he suitcase and took it to the Paris Roubaix sportive this year...
And now fully loaded as the poshest bike on the commute...
It's all a bit too heavy to be taken too seriously, though gives me a nice work out on the 8.5 miles to/from work.

gel pads on carbon bars? Either you are riding Roubaix or you need to HTFU
A bit of both tbh...It was my P/R ride (shorter course) this year that made me realise that Sunday into Hell film really is old and no one really rides steel anymore. It's my aim to do the full course on this next year (tho may stick on 25/28's). But I am a massive pussy too so, y'know...
Anyway...Weight came in at 8 on the dot without Garmin and lights. Tbh I'm happy with that (again, I'm pushing 97ish odd myself) and it rolls very nicely.

These are not much more expensive than chinese crabon, have a normal brake surface, and from the couple of weeks I've had them seem great. To be fair, I've never ridden other carbon wheels so I don't have anything to compare them to, but for the price they seem fantastic value
Those ones were my second option...tho they were a £100 or so and 400g more expensive/heavier.
Got it all mostly put together, rides ridiculously fast, though that's probably not surprising considering my frame of reference is old steel bits. Will post up pics later. and the inevitable bruises of my first clipless pedal experiment...
My biggest annoyance is the top of the headset collar bit showing some shithouse brand, and will need to be changed to something plain. Oh and the tape came up short (and looks shite), so will need to redo with some plain tape (and 2 sets thereof to fully cover the oversize bits with the fizik pads)

Just received the shoes (had a load of gift vouchers from the relatives) through the post. Head of packaging there must have LOVED pass the parcel as a young un. Probably could have had a game going for at least 7 unravels.
The smell is worth the entrance fee alone. Reminds me of my first pair of proper football boots.

I'm probably going to give it to a mechanic to put together.
I'm not too bad with connecting x bone to y, though stuff like grease/lubing and (more importantly on this one) the various torque concerns are perhaps left to a pro.
Does anyone have any recommendations for guys that will (in London)? The less they'll look down on me for buying chinese and/or not from the shop the better...
-
Well most of the chinese-sourced parts have arrived. Whilst I don't have a particularly good eye for construction etc (the proof, of course will be in the riding) but it looks ok.
Communication has been nothing short of superb though. They nail the "comforting the nervous/suspicious westerner" side of things very well.

Can someone tell me buying these wheels is a bad idea too?

If you need a big frame then you will never be short of bargains from last year.
Open to suggestions - I genuinely couldn't find one.
You say that you're not after a Madone or a Dogma, but with the kind of money you are talking you're not far off. If I were you (desperate for di2 with a fixed budget) I would buy a good condition 2nd hand frame (there are so many out there if you are patient) and a new di2 group.
The Di2 is a deal breaker (the noise of misaligned rear derailleurs haunts me), and the di2 versions of those frames is Small-Car territory.
I'm wary of second hand frames due to the propensity of bike theft, and, well, people sell bikes for a reason (i.e. they're fucked) and carbon one's are tougher (IMO) to spot the dudds.
I would totally understand this project (well, not totally, but I would better understand it) if you were building yourself a mechanical Ultegra-equipped race bike at that weight for sub £1300.. but even then I would still rather buy a Ribble or PX - there is very little difference in price, plus you get better customer service, QC and a warranty. I appreciate the decision you are making is one of aesthetics, but if I were on a budget I wouldn't skimp on warranty because I'm too much of a tart to ride a frame with an ugly logo.
For the record, if Planet X did a di2 bike I'd probably bite their hand off. The brand says the 'right things' to me (very budget conscious, little delusions of being a US/Euro Grande Dame, just bikes that work) and the frames are pretty discrete.
But they don't.
The point of the project is to try out di2 shifting and for a set and forget (or at least allow a bit of dimentia). It's in the back of my head a lot of the groupset will be transposed onto a future build if it's a roaring success (when the frame snaps on me!)
Or you could just buy a Ultegra CAAD* and have a blindingly good bike straight out of the box. Don't believe all the guff about carbon being way better and more comfortable than alu, there may be some difference in ride quality, but not that most of us can discern over choice of contact points and tyre pressure.
- stock forum response: buy a CAAD - but there's a reason for that!
And the Mumsnet crowd RAVES about M&S slacks ;)

Ah ok...Aero brakes/C Record/Delta on a Super isn't something I'd seen before.
