For sale, a pair of caliper brakes off my steamroller. I'm moving to a cross-check, so need to get v-brakes, or cantis.
They're Tektro R538, 47mm - 57mm drop. Glossy black.
I'm not sure how old these are, they arrived on the 'roller when I bought it off ebay. But they look in excellent condition, not least after a bit of a polish tonight to remove road dust :-)
I have bought new pads for them - yep, I originally assumed I could put them on the cross-check, but no! The new pads are fitted, they are in blue. However, only the rear ones were worn, the old front ones are OK and could work as spares, so they are included, and in the photo below.
Going new on Chain Reaction for £40 for a pair... offering them up at £25
I'm in London (Mile End, E3), but these are very post-able!

so... talking of being on a learning curve... tonight's job was to clean up the brakes I took off my steamroller & fit the nice new blue pads, then fit them to the cross-check.
Hang on - steamroller brakes onto a crosscheck??
Yeah, I assumed caliper brakes would go onto the cross-check just fine...
Hastily I have been reading through the magnuswinwick thread, seeing what people have done. I'm committed to drop bars and drop bar brake levers. I'm not sure I want to go as retro as cantis, despite my pro-retro comments above. ChrisMGS seems pretty happy using v-brakes with his drop-bar levers... reckon that's what I might try.
The bright side to this is that I was a bit unsure as to how the mudguards would fit under the calipers, and also I thought the Cross-Check's v-brake bosses might look a bit odd if there was no brake attached... so v-brakes will fix both those!

Selling this Concor San Marco Supercorsa saddle - £20
It arrived with me on a bike I got off ebay, so age unknown. However, condition is not too bad. I have recently cleaned it, and conditioned it with a suede shoe gunk, and brushed it, so a reasonable amount of fur is still there. There are a couple of marks, and a bit of a crack at the back.
I'm not an expert on Concor saddles, but I am guessing this is not the real-deal vintage saddle, but the more recent continuation/reproduction version.
I am in London - Mile End, E3 - but will happily post this.

I hope this doesn't annoy anyone too much or that it is in disregard to forum etiquette ... I am going to launch the stubbornly unselling San Marco saddle into its own thread. The reason is that the quick search in the top right is based on the thread title, so searches for 'Concor', 'San Marco' or even 'saddle', are missing this thread. In mitigation, to reassure you I am not just here for the quick sell, my motivation is simply to avoid ending up throwing this saddle in the bin; instead I want to find a nice LFGSS home for it (ie not pimping it on ebay, etc). I will relentlessly bump the price in the new thread until it ends up as freecycle.

^^^ Thanks BN. This project is partly an exercise for me to learn more about bike fixing, this is the first time I have taken a bike entirely apart and then tried to put it back together, so the forum is proving a reassuring aid!
^ They're Lezyne Femtos. I had in mind a 'bug eyed' look for the front and back, using Cateye Loops - I had one for my 'roller and really got to like the simplicity of swapping it between helmet or bikes. But last week I went out for a cruise around BLB / Tokyo Fixed / Evans / Cycle Surgery / LMNH / etc / etc to find 'blue bling' and spotted the Femto in LMNH. I bought one for a test, liked it, and so bought some more - going for 2 front, 2 rear. It's bright, but the downside is it uses those coin batteries, so it'll be annoying when they eventually run flat. Various colours:

I want to find a way to mount those femtos on the front so that they are in front of the brake cables. Most handlebar extensions seems a bit ugly / over engineered for a couple of small lights. I spotted this VO extension, which looks awesome:
but I cannot find one in stock. I was getting psyched up to build one myself, but then I spotted this:

I've ordered one, but it is on its way from Taiwan (I think!), so fingers crossed it arrives - am quite looking forward to fitting it.

Yep, I think so... certainly looks good to my untrained eye. I only found one bit around the seat tube that looked like it might be a wobble in the thickness - or they have exposed an old ding! The dropouts look very neat, consistent thickness, but a bit rounded out round some of the detail, so maybe this will be an issue. Presumably I can file the paint down a bit if so?
All the screws have so far gone in OK - the bottle cage nuts and the screw holding in the gear cable guide. I did expect those threads to get filled up with paint - can that be a problem or in fact is it usually OK?
Rose have just emailed to say the wheels are built & shipped, I was hoping for them by the weekend, but looks like it might be into next week to get this finished.

...but then added something a bit more meaningful and did the headset & fork crown race, and put in the forks.
For my shifting, I'm using Dura Ace downtube shifters. Partly I just quite like them, but that might just be nostalgia. But also partly cost - don't think I can afford STIs. The simplicity of the cabling appeals more than bar-end shifters. And also because I'm aiming for 1x9 -- if I had a double or triple at the front, then two downtube shifters might be a tad too nostalgic...

Just picked up a resprayed Cross-Check frame. I'm not putting decals on it, but am putting the Surly badge back onto the head tube. Anyone got any tips on the best glue to use for sticking metal to metal? The frame is gloss&laquer - does it need keying to make the glue stick? Any thoughts appreciated!

Unfortunately I'm up in Cambridge today, returning quite late, usually get into Kings Cross about 8.10. I don't mind stopping off around Holborn on my way home but I'm guessing you might have all dispersed homewards by then...?
Vince, I think I have been to your office to drop off some brake levers back in ~March... we could all meet there to have a seat post jumble sale!
Anytime Wednesday would be OK for me.

Gravity Logo seatpost, 27.2mm diameter, 350mm long. Shiny gloss finish, which is quite scratched from adjustments over the years. But the details around the clamp is fine and the clamp itself is quite solid.
It seems these used to be ~£60 new! But Chain Reaction have them for £15... anyone want it at £10?
I'm in Mile End, London; can meet centrally; also can post.

Rightoh, I think all bits are pretty much sold now, the 'roller is fully asset-stripped. A pleasing number of bits are carrying onto the Cross-Check. It feels like the small bits, which it might be easy to forget which pricing up a project like this, such as the inner tubes, are kinda coming for free!
Yep, sorry, they sold with the frame to dglshrn
However, he was not sure about the size and was thinking he might possibly sell it on, so the forks might still be spare. This is his profile if you want to PM him!
