Does anyone have experience with the Stronglight 2000 on a Pre Cursa? If so what BB did you use.
I had problems with that BB/Crank combo too. Ended up using a Shimano 110mm. Chainline didn't seem too off to me on a 42mm hub.
Thanks for this rusty! With a 42mm chainline the spider is very close to the chainstay which is worrying...

Oh dear...
The clearance is actually around 2mm closer than the ruler shows so about 8mm driveside and about 2.5mm left side. Highly frustrating as you can imagine and I am clueless as to what is the cause though I am no mechanical wizzkid.
The frame is a brand new blue Pre Cursa, the cranks are Stronglight 2000 (165mm) and the bottom bracket is a Stronglight JP400 107mm. The BB is brand new and the cranks are from my PX track bike with light use and are undamaged. Planet X recommend a 107mm BB for a 42mm chainine which is what I bought.
I fitted the old BB (also a 107mm labelled JP400 though different - see photo below) and believe it or not the chainring was up against the driveside chainstay leaving scratches.
The old BB from last year is on the right with pink grease, as you can see they are clearly different.
So what do you think the problem is? Frame related, cranks or BB?

Panda had a 56cm pre cursa frame which he mentions dips forward as can be seen in the photos in his thread. Maybe he will chime in.

The FXE seems like an awesome frame. It's nice to see a steel frame with super large diameter tubes, a bit different to the norm and should be as stiff as anything if that matters to you.
If I get a bit of cash saved up I might go for the FXE too.Tony
Dolan FXE Matte - on the Dolan page, the frame look slight blueish, is it?

I just pulled the trigger on the new blue pre cursa with the alpina fork. No photos of it on blue on the web yet so hard to tell if it will be hot or not.
It said matt black on the website, but does it matter? it'll get chipped either way.
Hopefully the blue will be more chip resistant than the matt black pre cursa. On the Dolan site and on ebay the blue pre cursa seems like a glossy finish but who knows. It's due to arrive tomorrow so I'll post a few pictures of it then.

After a basic 52/54cm Dolan Pre Cursa Frame or F&F if drilled. Really don't mind plenty of scratches if it brings the price down! They are only £110 shipped new on ebay.
Also would consider a similar alu track frame with an effective top tube of about 54cm.
Have to be willing to post as I am in Northern Ireland.
Cheers

Erm, have you never heard of hillclimbing?
But how many hill climbs are flattish and several hundred meters long or less? :)
I was specifically talking about road racing for track sprinters on very short stretches of road, uphill or not. This type of racing would physically suit a very different type of rider than endurance road riders and could be done in many locations without the need for a track.
Just a thought, but it could be fun.

^^^^^^^^
It always puzzled me why this type of thing is not a sport in its own right. You don't need an expensive track as there are plenty of roads and you could have uphill or flat sprints of slightly varying distances to suit the heavier or lighter riders.I really do think it could (should) be done and would bring many into the sport who are not physically suited to endurance events or standard road races, it also looks a hell of a lot safer than track (and road) racing.
As nice as tracks are they should not always have to be a necessity for our sport to take place.

OK, thanks. The 48t chainring is close to the stays on mine.
I am finding that I can not get a 42mm chainline with the Stronglight 2000 without the spider hitting the chainstay. Is this nornal with the Pre Cursa or are could the newer frames be different?
I don't know if I should get rid or the frame if I can not use my other track wheels with it.
