In the interim I've had this built up with a 150mm stem, huge swept back bar, flat pedals as my city cruiser (never took photos of it in the guise though) but recently visited my parents and took it with me to leave there. I had an amazing few days reliving my younger years blasting round Suffolk's little lanes and punchy climbs on the fixed, was great! Already looking forward to the Christmas period for more of the same!

Shortly after the last post we got word of our first velodrome session, the painter busted out a spontaneous 5th paint job on this in the space of 24h, I collected at 5pm and had it built up and on the boards by 7 and have been happily riding the track 2/3 times a week ever since :)
I kept just getting wrapped up in the riding and forgetting to take a photo but last night got around to it:
The palette is based on the artwork of Leon Berkowitz:
The painter knows I'm a fan of Berkowitz but this paintjob was a complete surprise for me and I'm stoked on it...exactly what I was originally hoping for: that my friend has artistic freedom and used it to create something unique, fun and totally to my tastes!
The bike rides good too ;)
Tonight is the last track session of the year so I'll be taking the bike back to the workshop afterwards to fettle and take some proper photos.
To do:
- trim steerer
- swap out tyres for some Veloflex records: currently on corsas but the rubber's looking a little old after sitting around so long (plus records should be FAST so I'm excited to try them out)
- experiment with saddles: I ride a Fizik Antares on all my other bikes, it works for me: super long rides, day in-day out, on/off road - I'm happy but not on the track... I'm curious to try some of the new breed short nose saddles here, if anyone has recommendations/success with them on the track I'd be keen to hear!

Well…funnily enough I just visited the painter yesterday to apply some pressure as our velodrome is soon to be converted from vaccination center back to cycling facility and I need my track bike!
It’s currently rocking it’s 4th paint job and it’s a hot mess! with some scribbles from the dude on to does prep (also a buddy of mine) on the fork as they really planned to paint it again but I like it how it is! It’s unique, has a story and meaning for me and the big plus: it only needs clear coat then it’s done!

The Shand road bike has been ridden as above for the past few years and a bunch of parts have simply worn out so it's about time it saw some love. Since moving to Berlin I only really used it for group rides...the pandemic has put pay to those and since building a fat tyre bike I've been riding almost exclusively off road so so it's been living a quiet life on the rollers.
The Flo wheels are dead, 2 front wheels braked through, rear rim cracked and free hub worn out.
Got a new set of wheels built: Hope RS4s on Archetypes, new cassette, chain, saddle, ESI tape
Managed to find a pair of Open Pave's (no green stripe though 😢), haven't ridden them in years and used to love them so jumped on them however when rummaging through my parts box I found a new pair of Veloflex Master 28's and decided to stick them on for summer.
I also stripped the whole bike to clean everything in an ultrasonic bath, everything come out clean and shiny, but the brakes and DNS crank arm came of without the anodising haha
I like the brakes as I'll always chuckle thinking about pulling them out of the bath, the cranks look rough but been meaning to get a Stages powermeter for a while anyway...
All fresh and ready for summer:

I've just been riding the last few years but getting back on the track on this has totally lit a fire under me for training and going quick and I've been absolutely loving it! Just what I needed to get me through the Berlin winter!
