I’m selling my (what I believe to be) 1974 Raleigh Europa to help fund a new charge.
I’ve been told it has crespie? lugs and is regular steel not cromo or Reynolds and could date from 1968-74. I found a catalogue from 74 with this spec so I’m guessing that the one.
I had it stripped and powder coated (badly but effectively). It is a 21" frame with 1" forks.
It’s got 700c wheels with a flip-flop rear running a fixed 16t and a freewheel 16t (its on freewheel at the mo)
The tyres are shwable blizzard.
Shimano bb with a Deore mt-60 crank (the smaller ring on the pic is in place to give the correct spacing and additional support to the Deore 46t main ring, and no you cant "take the chain off by hand and put it on the small ring". ive been ask that so many times  )
The stem is the original gb and some nos cut down Ritchey forcelite bars.
The headset is a mix of new bottom set and original top set (because of the fork threads are different, new bearings top and bottom)
Original steel post (free moving) and a Vetta turbo saddle in fair nick.
Brakes are original Wienmann centre pulls with generic levers and new cables.
I use the bike every day for commuting and it rides well. when it was stripped it was cleaned of any surface rust before powder coating.
I can also include all the original bits like the chainset, rear mech (shimano skylark) campag shifter, drop bars, wienmann levers, pedals, b/b axle, cups and cotter pins, rest of the headset. but to be honest they have seen far better days (well the chainset has but the rest of it is ok)
£100 collected or £120 posted via p2g but would prefer collection as i have no viable means of getting a box to box it up due to selling my car! -
No, I also thought this and made sure they were ok-thanks to RTI the usual and favoured tightness on the strap has a notch so it naturally stops in the same place.
I'm actually wondering now that you've mentioned this whether it might be all the mozzy bites round my ankles that are fucking up blood flow... hmm.
pins and needles/numbness can be caused by subconsciously scrunching up your toes in the shoes (especially when grinding). most people dont even realise that they are doing it. try splaying your toes in the shoe and make sure the axle of the pedal is directly below the ball of your foot.

i have bmx bandits on dvd if you want to borrow it (i can post it out) you can d/l quicksilver on itunes although the new sony movies channel on sky are showing it all the time now so just record it and burn it. american flyers is a bugger to get hold of as its only on usa region on dvd and not on uk release or the usual download sites but it would only take buying it on amazon then ripping it to a dvx or what ever.

no, its not yours. the company you work for own it as they have paid for it up front (minus the tax relief ect). pay them back and get a certificate of ownership after the given amount of time then you can do what you like with it. unless they dont check of course in which case its just the taxman your defrauding (claiming tax relief on something you dont have/do) and that makes you fair game

i dont particularly like any car drivers when they are driving. it seems people get into this mentality when they are behind the wheel that they have a right of way irrelevant of where they are. the advert on the telly where people are walking around bumping into eachother has it spot on, we dont act like that when we are vulnerable i.e. a pedestrian because there is always someone bigger/harder than you that will prevent you from doing it, but behind a wheel of a vehicle, well, people turn into twats. its almost like a switch. i have just sold my car and dont intend to replace it, a totally alien concept to my wife who doesnt understand why somone would not want a car but to me, all drivers are complete fuckers who are trying to kill me because they are far superior to me (well at least until they get out of the car) but by far the worst are the builders/trades that drive around in their scabby transit/escort/swb tippers (pikeys included) who whould never ride a bike because they are to busy getting pissed in the pub (need to get a part back in 2 hours).
people? fuck them :) -

hi im building up my first fixed. im having trouble with the wheels...namely ive sourced a 700c (im prsuming narrow like a 23c or similar for the rear but the front wheel i already have is a 622-20 so it takes a much wider tyre, somthing like a 35 or a 38c (it came with a 28x1 3/8 x 1 5/8 but its shagged).
now bearing in mind im trying to build this as cheap as possible the bike only cost a 10er 1974 raleigh the question is this:
should i just live with the mismatch on wheel/tyre sizes front and back and potentially look like a bit of a knob.
or pony up for yet another front wheel from a road bike to fit the same size tyres f/r (i already have a new set of 700x23c tyres waiting.
im kinda skint so id rather not spend any money than is neccesary (im even using the original bb cups albeit with a suitable square taper axle to fit the deore crank i already have with a bodged 46t ring fitted to the inside of the spider)
im using the original gb stem with some flat bars and a shit steel seatpost with a knackered turbo saddle. i had a friend strip and powder coat the frame for free so it really is a cheapie but i really really need my fixie umm....fix? i cant stand commuting on my mountain bike anymore knowing theres a fixie to be ridden. -
Thanks for your words everyone, he is missed badly and will be remembered well on every ride we do. Dan, ride in peace brother.
