Early start for a meeting. Puncture in Brixton after 5 minutes. Pulled to side of road and bus starts beeping his horn because he can't move forward easily to the red light 5 metres further along the road and considers waiting for me to move out of the road is frankly an inconvenience too far (I believe those were his words, but I couldn't really hear him). Tit. Swift tube change and 15 mins late for meeting. Chap was from Isle of Man and told me the island is full of cyclists these days. Like a plague.

New tag: It's nice to see this sign in pub-lic view. Its origins are uncertain but I find it innteresting nonetheless.

Old tag: 322 Brixton Road. The Asian Community Action Group in the 1990s and a century ago the building was the Brixton Liberal Association. After renovation for residential use, a quote from cult artist and writer Austin Osman Spare was painted on the end wall overlooking Wynne Road – he spent the last few years of his life in a basement flat at 5 Wynne Road, almost adjacent.

Yes, not a difficult one for those that travel that route. Good to keep the game moving!

Damn, I cycle nearby that twice a day. But without an easy opportunity to actually take it in - not least of all because it isn't all that distinctive...

It appears the noteworthiness stems from it being the former home of Henry Havelock Ellis, a social reformer who studied human sexuality and co-authored the first medical textbook on homosexuality in 1897, and also published works on a variety of sexual practices and inclinations, as well as transgender psychology. He is credited with introducing the notions of narcissism and autoeroticism.

Wikipedia specifies that the textbook on homosexuality was the first medical textbook "in English". I'm intrigued to know which language beat him to it.

Not out drinking tonight though and can't Boris Bike home so I expect karmic non-cycling commuting balance will be restored by the end of the day with an almighty shitty tube journey home.

Challenged to a race along Kennington Road this morning. The challenge was too late for any serious racing - approaching the lights by IWM. But the thought was nice.

The Oval cycle lanes are probably now the least enjoyable stretch of my commute.
