I do not live in London or a major city so maybe my view is a little different. If cycling on the road where I am, you are definitely going slower/ the same speed as the rest of the traffic as there are no cycle/ bus lanes to speak of.
Our cycle lanes are on the pavement ;p...Which has a lot of downfalls of course, but at least when it comes to crossing junctions, where the road splits the cycle lane, inexperienced cyclists treat the cycle lane as more of a path/ pedestrian type mentality thus checking for incoming/ turning traffic.
The on road cycle lanes that go past junctions, inexperienced cyclists may very well have no idea that vehicles may turn left into them. A cycle lane is only for bikes, right.

True, good point. I reckon though that if a slower limit is in place, even if the traffic is moving slower than it, the lower speed limit just implies a more "drive safer" kind of attitude? I know that if I drive through a 20mph school zone, you definitely tend to be checking about you mirrors and generally driving in a more controlled manner, just in case.
Cyclists are usually the fastest vehicle on the road during rush hours, and they are getting killed by vehicles manoeuvring badly, not going too fast.

All cycle lanes do is create a false sense of a protective bubble for inexperienced cyclists.
Reduce speed limits on major commuter routes, with high pedestrian/ cyclist volume.
Restricted access on the same major routes to HGV type vehicles, especially perhaps at peak times.
Make every cyclist take some kind of training/ test especially if they have no drivers licence. Cycling on a road with no road knowledge/ experience = insanity.
Construct HGVs out of pillows and marshmallow.
Finally, in an ideal world, bike only roads.

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has a Mercian (or similar British made) hiding away going to waste? Or seen one about the internet etc to point out.
Preferably just frame and forks, but would consider a complete build (particularly road and geared).
Particularly looking for something in a deep blue or green or red, in that order.
Sized something about 58cm C-T.
Not looking for perfection, a semi beater thats not beat up too bad.
Thankyou,
Lee -
That's understandable Andy.
I have been reading the forum for years, not much of a participator to be honest which would constitute really as not being part of the forum admittedly.
If it looks as though I am taking the mick, trying to save some money...which it probably does, (My username is recently signed up obviously, before finding the chainwhip offer mind you, honestly. I thought I was a member years ago, could not log in, so assumed I never did register, not sure), then just say so.
I need it posted, and honestly £30+ quid posted is too expensive for me, 20£ ish seemed reasonable.
I'd rather yours than a knarly neon green icetoolz minger no doubt.
Lee.
