I've certainly used that specific part of the CRA to great success, even recently with a friend who had a phone delivery from Google that DPD claimed to leave outside his door.

Safeplaces do not supersede the CRA, they merely may facilitate the goods into a customer's possession. If anything goes awry, that argument is once again between the retailer and courier.

If they give you any shit, quote CRA2015 at them.

I took a set of scales into Sports Direct and got the cheapest, lightest ones I could find. Less than 500g for the pair, which wasn't terrible for around £35.

Yep, deffo worthwhile. Quick drying and prevents the smell buildup far better than anything manmade.

For the shoes nothing has ever worked better for me than enzyme cleaner for soaking, and tea tree oil/isopropyl spray for post-ride.

What would be the main advantages (apart from storage capacity/expansion) of running a NAS rather than just storing everything on a 2TB mini PC?

Space, reliability, set and forget, built in cloud backup options. I will grant you that a Mini PC is small, but SSDs are not viable long term storage solutions except in the most specific cases. I've got an old NAS sitting in my cupboard doing sweet FA if you'd like to try it?
