You can probably get something quite nice for that. I personally keep an eye on Roberts frames on ebay and nice stuff for that kind of money are quite doable.
Cheers. Seeing what people's preferences and tastes are is good, just means I can learn more about frames/builders that I didn't know of previously. And see what's in my budget.
Have had my eyes opened to NJS and Koga Miyata just in these last few days. So there's loads of good stuff I'm not aware of.

Didn't wanna start a new thread, 'cos I don't have a project yet. I would like to pick your more knowledgeable brains though.
You're looking for a frame to build up, budget up to approx £300 for the frame + forks. What would you be looking at?
(I've been looking for Merckx, Colnago etc at the moment, missed out on a Dave Llyod ... but this forum is opening my eyes to some really nice stuff, so thought it might be worth asking).

In what condition is it acceptable, in your opinion, to get a new paint job on a vintage frame? (Restoring original style paint)
I will classify condition in movie makeovers:
Julia Roberts - Pretty Woman
This is a hidden gem. It's looking pretty skanky after years of neglect or one bad relationship. A makeover will make it a 10/10.
Rachel Leigh Cook - She's All That
This has a few scratches, maybe the name is worn a bit on the top tube, but you still know it's a looker really. It's probably a 7/10 , but could go to a 9/10.
Sandra Bullock - Miss Congeniality
This has marks and scratches on all tubes, but even with a paint job it's maybe only gonna be an 8/10. Is it really worth it?

Thanks - he's not actually a Beardie though. Don't worry, gets mistaken for Beardie and "a Dulux dog" a lot. And I have mistake Beardies for his breed plenty of times!
He's a Polish Lowland Sheepdog.
A bit smaller than English Sheepdogs, and probably a bit smaller than Beardies too I think. Maybe slightly shorter hair too. But still daft as a brush, they have that in common too.
