Just had a call from the police, they have my bike, recovered from Brick Lane market yesterday!
That's good to hear.
I was there yesterday and saw the police closing down a few kids who were just standing around flogging a a small collection of bikes which were obviously stolen. One of them I saw went for a tenner. You've got the bike back which is a result but the problem is these kids probably only got a caution, if that, and are out there again already stocking up for next week. -
Thanks everyone for your sympathies, offers to look out etc. That bike was probably the second most important thing to me after my kids in terms of the void it's left; In terms of monetary value it easily takes top spot.
Below is a breakdown of the build as a couple of parts differ slightly from the default Dolan build in the picture I linked to. Unfortunately I don't think I have a photo anywhere of the bike. (One of many regrets .. apparrently the day before this incident there was an attempted theft of another bike at the school in similar circumstances. However the guy was caught by the owner at the scene and no theft actually took place. Prsumably because he didn't get away with it no action was brought against the fucker and worst of all no warning was sent out. It wasn't until mine was stolen the next day that the school issued a warning in the form of a text. That really hurts. And the wider issue is that if an attempted theft isn't treated as seriously as an actual theft (which isn't very seriously anyway) and all that happens is the guy just hands back the bike and walks away, where's the deterrent? If he's lucky he gets to steal the bike, if he's unlucky he walks away no worse off than he was before. If that's how you make a living then you are stupid not to do that as many times as you can fit into a day's work. - I'm not necessarily recommending this as policy but I've lived in South East Asia and it's not unheard of for petty street thieves to be beaten to death by an ugly crowd for a lot less than that which an entire bus queue will look away from to avoid getting involved in the UK. It's the level of social acceptance of this kind of thing here that's sick)

More on theft of my My Dolan Seta track bike: it was stolen at about 3:35 - 3:40 pm on 13th (thursday) from inside the grounds of Gayhurst school on Gayhurst Road, Hackney, London, E8 3EN when I went to collect my sons who go there. The bike was left for a few seconds well inside the school grounds, it was in fact next to the door of the reception and is under close CCTV. I've seen the recorded footage of the sub-human scum who had followed me into the school grounds and picks the bike up right in front of the camera seconds before I come out with my son. It is likely that he lives nearby and is quite identifiable. He is tall, I'd say well over 6 feet, scrawney build and with a noticeably slouching posture, he is white, probably in in his early twenties short brown straight hair. he was wearing a grey jacket over a white shirt with a collar. If anyone spots, him grab the nearest blunt instrument and bludgen this evolutionary mistake.
The bike is only a few months old and in perfect condition. I bought it direct from Dolan bikes online and have a complete list of all the parts and their model numbers and spec. A hole had been pre-drilled through the front fork on which I had mounted black Shimano 105 front calliper brake fitted to a Cane Creek brake lever. The Sugino Logo is missing from the crankset as it had rubbed off when I was cleaning the bike with alcohol so this should be easy to identify. There is a smallish scratch on the crossbar and I replaced one of the tyres so they are not matching as purchased. Apart from this it looks just like the image here

which is from the Dolan website, same Alpina headset, Navigator Street wheels etc. If anyone sees one being sold anywhere please let me know. There aren't that many around. Any info that leads me to getting it back will be generously rewarded. If it was legal I would also offer a reward for anything that leads to any physical harm being done to the overgrown pondlife i've described above. -
My Dolan Seta track bike was stolen yesterday afternoon about 3:40 from london fields area. It was only a few months old I had fitted a front brake (cane creek lever and shimano 105). it is in perfect condition. I bought it direct from Dolan so I've got a list of the exact specs which I'll post later along with a pic. It's the blue one you can see on their website and I had rubbed the Sugino logo off the crank when cleaning it with alcohol.
