I was set on getting a Honda CG 125 to learn on before doing my test but now that I've seen I can get an Aprilia RS 125 for only slightly more money I'm very tempted!
I realise there are many drawbacks (running costs, reliability, way more likely to get stolen) but I would probably enjoy riding it rather than just having it as an interim before passing my test.
Anyone care to pursuade me either way?

I've skimmed through this thread having decided to get a motorbike, great read and many pictures to drool over.
I'll be doing my CBT, getting a Honda CG125 and then do the A2 in a few months time once I determine if I'm getting use out of a motorbike.
Only issue is cheapest insurance I can find for the CG125 is £490 for Third Party or £690 TPFT! That seems ridiculous for a bike that will only do 1000 miles a year and is locked in a public garage. Is this normal? (I'm 24 and live in Stratford)

It's inherently hard to monitor failures that occur with very little warning...
The reason to watch for cracking is because the fatigue strength of aluminium alloys is poor anyway and the dents will have caused stress raisers which reduce the number of stress cycles to failure. This will be evidenced by a crack some time before failure.

Loss of brakes? #braklesslorries
I thought modern air brakes meant if there was a malfunction they lock on rather off... may well be wrong though.

The advice I was given wasn't that I couldn't create shares or allocate them to someone, but that as soon as I was taking investment in exchange for equity (or debt that could convert to equity later) that this required governance, auditing and transparency. And that the bodies who did that would have to be certified as being qualified to do so.
I believe I misread your original post.
You are correct, you wont need to interact with the FSA at all to issue equity / debt but it is likely that you'll need to work with an authorised firm (like one of the big four but on a smaller scale) to tick all the necessary boxes. I imagine this could be quite expensive and time consuming.
I think most people on this forum are just happy to donate and wouldnt want a stake in anything, that's definitely how I feel.

Really? I've always been between 68-72kg at 6foot, and have never felt excessively skinny. What reasons did the physician give?
She said my BMI was on the verge of being too low, I ignored her. The only reason I feel skinny is that when I was at university and obsessed with lifting I was 85kg and 9% bf but then I was eating six meals a day and nothing went into my mouth before it went on a set of scales.
You'd need to share your daily food averages....
I eat the same breakfast everyday which is 450 calories. The remainder of the day can vary from 600 to 2000 on top of breakfast, depending on how busy I am at work. Worst case scenario is I eat breakfast and nothing else the remainder of the day, that happens rarely though.
Why does eating cause stress ?
It's just one more additional chore and expense. When I get in from work I'd rather fall asleep than cook dinner and eat.

i thought i ate more than enough anyway, but obviously not.
try counting calories for a few days, it's always a surprise to see how much you're actually taking in when not thinking about it.
have recently started really trying to gain weight, it's quite time consuming, stressful and expensive.
Cost is the worst part, as when I'm broke the easiest thing to skimp on is food. Plus missing meals means no stress / effort and plenty of time for all the other ways I waste my life :)
I was planning on spending 700ish for a bog standard CG but for £300 more the CBR looks like a much better deal. I'm 6' so should be alright and my budget is £1000 so I could get a higher milage CBR125R - at what milage is the bike likely to start giving issues? (I realise that's almost like asking how long is a piece of string...)
Having read some more owner reviews of the Aprilia RS125 I think I'll be steering well clear, for the sake of the extra performance it just doesnt sound worth it. Although it wont be long before I convince myself otherwise...
Thanks for the advice BQ.
