Really cheeky, but might as well ask - is anyone driving to this, and just happens to have two places spare for getting down there?
The trains etc are quite lame in terms of getting there at a good time to allow time to ride to HQ from the station... Why don't they make HQ somewhere a bit better dammit!

70 miles of Kentish Killer today in 4hours 20 ish.
Was pretty pleased with the time given I've not ridden properly in 3 weeks due to shitty weather. Was a top ride, I arrogantly was thinking it wasn't that 'killer' but then they threw two seriously brutal hills in in the last 5 miles or so which nearly made me weep.
Loads of marshals around the route giving you confidence you've not got lost really helped, it was a very well organised and good natured event. Plus, a revelation at the feed stop when I chowed down my first ever Cliff Bar - really tasty (compared to any flapjack / choc bar, yet along a typically grim tasting energy bar), and am pretty sure it helped me power round then next 10 miles or so with extra vigour.
four pints at the jolly butchers in stokey when i got back and now i'm feeling great
bring on the spring.

Down for the Kentish Killer though I'm currently laid out with a cold and haven't been on the weekend bike since November. This is going to be horrendous.
Whilst I feel for you, I'm also kinda a little pleased someone is in a worse starting situation than me! What starting time are you in for? I'm I'm the 9.20 slot, gonna get a train from Victoria at 7.40 I think

Hmm, maybe my metabolism is not like others but for >55 miles I'd be taking 2 bananas and a Sainsbury's 3-pack of flapjacks (only £1! Filled with preservatives tho - seriously you can leave them in a cupboard for months, they will not die), rather than "a banana or fig rolls". Two whole packets of fig rolls might just see you right. I don't know, I guess people have to figure out their own bodies and get to notice the signs. But if you start feeling like you did the previous ride then it'll be for the same reason..
Yeh, it does all depend on the individual. When I'm heading out for a pretty hilly 60 miles I'll just take two bottles of water (or one water one high five zero) and an 'emergency' banana which I tend not to eat. However, I am normally pretty devestated by the end so should probably actually eat en route....

60 miles around the hills running in out of Epping Forest and a loop of Coopersdale / Theydon Bois / Toot Hill kinda area. After a week of not being able to ride at all due to working out of London, it hurt.
Made myself feel better in the afternoon by spending way more than anticipated at the Rapha sale on Brick Lane...

just signed up for this.
I managed to get in through the reserves list for this too.
Have also booked the wiggle ups and downs ride at the end of April. Currently deciding between the evans king of the downs ride or the chiltern 100, which clash. Thinking the latter. Anyone else here doing any of these?

Just wanted to say thanks Skive for the heads up about this ride, it was a good one. Also nice to meet jim1985 on the way home. Hope you enjoyed the well earned pint.
yeh, it was a fun ride - not as hilly as i was expecting though. am yet to wrok out if that's a good or bad thing. the highlight for me was definitely the two five year old kids chanting 'well done cyclists' about 200m from the finish.
topped the day off with too many beers whilst watching the football to cast myself into denial about having to work out of town all week, and then louie theroux does wrestling on DVD. a good day all in all.

^^ Jim. Generally get out there once a week with my pal Bigpaintbrush. If doing a short hilly one we do Epping and loops and it's about 34 miles give or take. If we go further we've been anywhere between 50 and 75 miles. On the hilly runs I average 15.5 as you can see. We're generally quicker on the longer flatter runs. But no records are challenged believe you me! Hope to get a few more shorties in before ice kicks in for real.
Sounds pretty similar to the types of ride I do... if you ever fancy some company, give me a shout. Not around this weekend though as I'll be doing the Harp Hilly Hundred

Hey y'all,
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to say here as I can't be arsed to read the thread...
I live in Stoke Newington (London), commute on a single speed (not brave enough to go fixed yet), and spend a lot of my weekends struggling round the lanes of Epping Forest etc on my road bike.
Wanted to join the forum to find people to go on rides with, go for beers with, help me fix my bike (I'm not very tech) etc....

To you and Unjurt (apologies, I'm new so don't know anyone),
Nice to see some others on this forum are making the most of the rollong Epping countryside - Essex isn't as flat as people think! I di 60 miles through the more nasty climbs of Epping Forest then round Coopersdale / Abridge etc yesteday. Went out again today and my legs felt terrible so only managed a few of the climbs in the forest before limping home...
I may have seen one of you guys - I was in a black and white jersey and on a red Specialized
This little ride out to Epping to do some hilly loops today. It was beautiful out there!

The notable bit was braking on the descents - having to brake on the patches of road with some sunshine on them and being proper ginger through the shaded areas which played host to light ice.
Also notable: I'm depressingly slow. Admittedly the beginning and end of my ride is urban and so quite traffic affected and I spent the main middle part of the ride trundling up and down hills but my rolling average was a lowly 15.3. (geared btw)
I was hoping to do some forum based riding (TNRC and the like) this year, but that type of pace will make me a burden I'd imagine. Bit annoyed about that. Why did I have to leave it so late to get into this stuff?
Oh and a hello (if he's on here) to the chap with the black Rapha long sleeve who I trailed from the A406 flyover to Chingford (where you dismounted and I asked whether you were ok) and then saw again on the hill from High Beech.
^
Hmmm... this could be a good idea. My mate and I were probably going to get a train to Oxted from Victoria (about a tenner each). It gets in at 8.20, but it's about 8 miles away, so we were thinking of getting a taxi from there (probably about £20 in total).
Then limp back to Oxted station after the ride. Trains are only every hour though. Thanks Southern Rail.
Whereabouts would you be driving from and do you have any idea how much a car would cost? If the car is mega expensive, get the train with us and we can split the taxi from the station to the HQ by three if you like?
