For once, one of the worst ASLs on my route didn't have any cars, taxis, coaches, or motorbikes/mopeds in it today.
Unfortunately I couldn't get to it via the left cycle lane (I turn left shortly after, so there isn't much point filtering on the right) when the lights were stationary, as the motorbike that was there had stopped in the cycle lane just before the first stop line. Rather than in the main line of traffic.

From the BBC London live feed:-
Cyclist crash 1019:
A cyclist has suffered serious injuries after a collision with a taxi at Holborn Circus in central London earlier today.
The 26-year-old man suffered head injuries and back pain and was taken to the major trauma centre at the Royal London Hospital. -

The whole of Victoria is one big construction site and HGVs thunder up and down this road at 40mph+ all day. I have commented countless times how dangerous it is and now this. It's a disgrace
^^
thisI have nearly been taken out on a traffic crossing island on Grosvenor Place, by an empty tipper truck doing at least 40mph on the way to one of these sites. He didn't even notice he'd clipped the kerb.
-
BBC travel news is reporting it as an accident between a cyclist and an HGV, rather than a car. Which I must admit was my first 'oh shit no' thought given that there is a construction site on the junction, and multiple lanes being dug up along there.
I can see why my hubby insists I text him when I get into the office - he stresses if it gets past when he expects me at work.
RIP Lady.

Clapham Junction crossing bridge is slowing filling with pasty and coffee shops.
Well done busiest station ever let's make less room as long as they buy a pasty after drawing blood, who cares?]
^^
thisBloody chaos if you time it wrong and are trying to walk opposite to the flow. I am going from Platform 5 to 12/14.
For those sprinting for the London Overground on Platforms 1/2 - I don't have any room to move to the side without taking someone out, and I have a huge sea of humanity moving towards me as it is. The trains won't disappear in a puff of smoke. Just get a later one. Its not my fault your incoming train was late or you couldn't get your sorry butt out of bed on time this morning.

also want
Ana's site is blocked for shopping at work, but I'll have a look later
Though a Uniqlo tennis dress - very Fred Perry like, with proper polo shirt collar and white trim, works for me in the summer with short shorts underneath. Not technical or anything, but very comfy. And in black (or very dark purple).

i found porridge went all watery with soy milk, as compared to the oats blending in with dairy. It's as if the oats didn't soak up the milk when I cooked it. I'd like to use soy or non dairy milk, it is the last step for me in being vegan as I don't much like cheese, but porridge with a banana and a little maple syrup is my winter staple brekkie. Any advice?

I don't know how well Velorution are doing these days. It is always deserted every time I go by. The new shop is smaller, and with less (but different) range of stuff. They aren't a Brompton dealer anymore, I think they do more specialist stuff.
If I have wanted anything bog-standard in that area, I have found Evans in Rathbone Place very helpful, and bought a reduced Oakley cycling jersey with skulls on in Cycle Surgery on Great Portland Street last time.
Cycle Surgery and Velorution are very close together now, so I think cyclists with standard needs will go in Cycle Surgery (or Evans if they know its there). Velorution still serves the particular market it did before it moved I think.

The U34 stuff is available at Velorution in Great Portland Street. I'm not a fan of the shop particularly, but I wanted to see what the ladies stuff was like, to feel the fabric.
I had a look at the ladies jersey, with the shoulder trim, which was pretty nice. Heavy windproof fabric, with a soft fleece lining, similar texture to a Gore windstopper.

+1 for more trousers - preferably skinny-ish Swrve type, jeans or similar. I haven't managed to get to a store to try the mens ones.
Whilst it might not be practical, a choice of leg lengths please! I end up having to hack off several inches from the bottom of most trousers. We don't all have 32 inch inside legs!

Slippery rails .... FGS its a teeny sprinking of snow for all of 5 mins, sleet for 10 mins, and then it stopped. Got to Feltham station at 07:07 for the 07:11 train, 07:05 was in the platform still, not that unusual.
It was still there at 07:25 after lots of puffing and spitting. Doors locked so we are all still standing there. Was packed though so whatever.
07:11 comes in and leaves at 07:30. Gets as far as Brentford and guard says train is running fast to Waterloo, there is another train behind if you want anything in between. I stay on as that works for me. Half the train gets off.
We creep onwards, stop at Barnes, but don't open the doors as we aren't supposed to stop there (today). Held on signal for so long that guard relents and lets people on. Tells them not stopping till Waterloo. Half of them get back off again.
Eventually leave, pick up a decent bit of speed. Stop in between Wandsworth Town and Clapham Junction. Engine goes off, lights and heating go off. Sit there in the dark for 5 minutes. No announcement. Lights on, engine on, off we go. Finally get to Waterloo 1 hour and 20 minutes after we left. A 35 minute journey.
Coffee at Waterloo most welcome.

Victoria Street SW1. Complete wind tunnel, whether walking or cycling, though only in the evening on the way home. I usually use the back roads down Petty France and Tothill Street instead.
Westminster Bridge was hairy last night though. Sorry if any of you fast boys had to overtake a wobbly woman in black on a black Brompton but I was getting buffeted all over the place. I nearly gave up and walked.

For Kingston, there is a separate tarmacced cycle path from Ham at Teddington Lock, when you get to the bridge at Kingston, go up on to the bridge, over to the other side, and then turn left down the path to Hampton Court. Not sure what you do after that. Separate path from Kingston to Hampton Court too, just the other side of the river from Kew to Ham.
You won't have to touch the horrid one way system (though faster folks will be on the road part of the bridge itself instead of the segregated bike lane).

I did like the comment from the AA in the Guardian article, which I think struck a good balance:
The AA's president Edmund King said: "This collision should act as a reminder to all drivers that we need to be more vigilant particularly when pulling out of entrances and turning at junctions.
"With autumnal weather and darker evenings it is essential to check and double-check for cyclists, pedestrians and indeed other road users before pulling out. We need to break down the 'two-tribe' mentality on the roads and co-exist in harmony." -
Anyone know of any lightweight gloves with a bit of a grip that don't then superglue themselves to any velcro on your bag or jacket?
I don't like heavy or too padded gloves, and run warm. My DeFeet gloves are great - nice and warm, great grips, especially when carrying the bike in between station platforms.
However, when trying to do anything with my bag that has velcro closures they stick like sh*t to a blanket.
I can't wear wool as I'm allergic, and have plenty of standard non cycling gloves without grips but find they are slippery when carrying the bike.

Party is 5.30pm at Piccadilly Circus.
We are watching the site at work as a nasty company (not us) is in the same building as us (its huge) so the building will go into lockdown around 12:00. I have a front window view from my office so will watch the fun.
