Checking in for my yearly update:
Scapin - NOS skinny steel forks, Cane Creek HS and a Syntace F99 (my favourite threadless stem). Stumbled across the Spingy wheelset on FB market place for AUD$80, even came with the original manual and warranty card! Its a shame the front wheel is busted.
Still no idea what I want to do with it though...

Cheers guys, it's been a lot of fun thrashing around on it!
In other news, I impulse purchased a thrashed Scapin road frame from FB market for pennies. The reason why it was so cheap was that I've counted three dents (sizable TT dent, 2x smaller chain stay dents) and it has had a 'touch up' job done on the original paint.
Anyhow, after a few hours of rubbing with Acetone I was able to get the frame back to its original paintwork. It's not pretty, but I do like the ratty look.
No idea how I would like it built, MGOOF is always fun but I think I'm leaning towards flatbars and trigger shifters
Watch this space.

Well, here it is. I've definitely been missing out by not riding more relaxed bikes!
Things to change:
- A headset from a more reputable brand (Cane Creek 40?) as the eBay special is garbage.
- Rear derailleur with a clutch (SRAM GX) as mentioned earlier in this thread.
- Small and simple front rack (Nitto M18/M1B/Bento) so I can lug my skateboard around.

Thanks for the RD information, I'll give this derailleur a go and see how it handles the bumps.
I've been on FB market place a bit more than usual lately, and was lucky enough to pick up a couple of deals:
- SLR saddle with carbon rails. While white isn't my colour, I enjoy the shape.
- Shimano DA to Mavic Open Pro wheelset. Can't go past this combination!
Getting closer! I have a set of tires on the way from a local shop, and a chain from AliExpress which I've been thinking of trying out...

Thanks for the kind words guys. No Kevin (the cat) feature this time unfortunately.
Picked up some older Sram Rival components. I'm digging the silver lever arms, and the silver rear derailleur should go nicely with the Shimano CX50 front derailleur (top pull) I have coming in the mail.
Unfortunately there was not enough clearance for the crank arms. I'm trying to stay away from older cranks on this bike, so I might have to either get the hammer or the dremel out.

Thought I might update this thread (with horrible photos) as a new project is now on the go..
Finally finished this bike, albeit with the 'incorrect' components. It hangs on the wall for most of the year, and only comes down for the retro day at the local track.
Ridden 1/2 days a week on the track. The AliExpress Power saddle is doing well, however the AliExpress carbon rims may need to be replaced soon.
Daily commuter. Nice and reliable. Changed the chainring to a gaudy Blackspire due to the DA chainring being on its last legs.
The new project! Picked this up while I was studying in Japan. Going to be a slow burner unfortunately. -

Sure. Based in Osaka, Japan. He built frames for Zunow from '72 and moved onto his own brand in '83. I believe he is mostly known for his cyclocross and road frames.
Price list from his website is along the lines of:
- Tange 2 - ~US$2000,
- Tange Prestige - ~US$2600
- Columbus Spirit/Tange Prestige - ~US$3000
- Columbus Max - ~$US$3400
- His own hybrid carbon/steel tubing - ~US$4000
(nb; I got mine second hand therefore paid much, much less.)
A lot of it is in Japanese, but have a gander, http://www.nakagawa-cw.co.jp/index.html

I've been in touch with the owner at Ocean Cycle Factory and he was able to give me a bit more information on the frame. May not matter to most, but I do enjoy nerding out a bit!
ST - True Temper Yamaguchi (!)
DT - Kaisei 8630 Mega
Rest - Kaisei 8630Built by a Mr. Hashiguchi, who has made frames for Gunwell, Maeda and Exter Proton.
