I don't think I'd accept that as a general rule--I haven't experimented with it, and I'm just speculating here, but perhaps 'entering' the picture from the ship, not the sea, is part of its effect on me. The reason why I commented on it is because it made me feel that particular sense of vastness, and I could imagine that that would be compromised if it was more 'pleasant' to look at.
I like the composition. Forget the rules, but why change anything here? Even the horizon is horizontal. A complete image imo.

Gazelle Champion Mondial frame 531 tubing with non-original Tange forks.
Seat tube: 61cm c-t, top tube 57,5cm c-c.Lovely lugs and butterfly rear bridge, Campagnolo headset, Stronglight BB 1,37x24 and Roto BB shell. Campagnolo long horizontal drop outs.
The paintwork is tatty, the original clear varnish is gone, spots of rust here and there.
Might need respray, though still good for an everyday commuter imo.

just found a micro crack which i thought was just a scratch on the drive-side crank. will examine it tomorrow again in daylight, shoot a photo... and close the tread.got also Super Mightys, 600ax and Nervar Star for sale but they're all 170mm. shipping to Ireland would be 8-10 pounds.

takes 26,8 seat post, British threading BB (68mm shell), the rear spacing is 126.
