yes the hub is about 120 wide so i had to make locking spacers to take up the gap and to lock the axle to the drop outs in the right orientation. Yes i recently acquired this frame to replace a Saber that cracked the downtube - a stress crack from the bottom of the front mech bracket which was welded up once but cracked again. As a last ditch repair i was going to get the downtube sheathed in carbon fibre by a carbon frame repairer - but this Blade came up and saved me the trouble. Here is another picture - i still have to sort out the stem / bars area and saddle as not happy with the aesthetics.

i decided to mock up the installation on an old frame from the man cave as a test bed - so i can still ride the fixie. The hub works well and changes nicely with a Campag 1970s shift lever- but with just a few laps of the garden i can see movement in the paint around that joint - so it is back to the wheelbuilder for a respoke on the drive side ! Many thanks for your warning ! :)

it may be OK as the tube is not split - but stress cracks may form - i have a Litespeed that had a stress crack in the downtube - i was going to bin it but i had an idea - get the downtube reinforced by encasing all of it in carbon fibre - i enquired with this company and indeed they can do it as a good repair - if you get the same on your frame it will give you peace of mind and a stronger frame ! - speak to Craig at CarbonFibreSolutions.co.uk

Well it was for my Litespeed Sabre - but i just discovered the frame has cracked (under my awesome power i guess !) so it is new frame time as well. Shifting - i could get an original 2 speed Sturmey quadrant shifter - but i was going to interface it with a modern shifter - but which type will now depend on the new frame. The hub in effect defaults to 1:1 fixed drive with no tension on the cable and when the cable is pulled enough, the shaft engages the planetary system for a 25% reduction - so as long as enough cable is pulled , i think i can get away with a variety of shifters.

Old and new - not just the Hub ! - current project - 2 speed fixed wheel for an easier time up the hills - bought a Sturmey Archer TF 2 speed fixed hub 1934 - but 40 hole rims are not common these days unless you want a heavy thing for Tandems - light-bicycle.com do up to 36 hole carbon aero rims inc tubeless and were fantastic - just asked if they can do a 40 hole rim = no problem , delivered in a week and no extra cost!! So going to build 1934 SH TF hub into 2008 45mm deep carbon aero tubeless rim with Sapim CX-Ray spokes Stainless.

.. but you need a shamal hub and this was just a single speed fixie conversion
I Have used Easyjet for years to fly MTB to the alps - no trouble at all - just select / pay for bike on line booking system - just ensure you are under the max weight - 34 kg i think (please check) - so pack all you can up to that weight. i also recommend you pay for Easyjet Plus - as you can avoid a big queue at the airport trying to fight your way to the check in desk between the tapes that your bike bag is too big to fit between !
