Yeah I've got Pacenti... can't remember what they're called, the 24mm wide rims anyway... and I run GP4000s on them too. Christ, the first time I changed a tube on the road was horrible. Right at the end of the Ride London hurricane, the sun had just come out for a bit.. rolled out of Green Park to go home, straight onto a shard of glass. Pinched both my tubes, and finally managed to get another one in after a kind donation from a passing rider. Having lived with them for almost a year now, I've discovered more of a knack to changing tubes with them - biggest tip is to have really solid levers. The Park Tools sort of lever won't cut it, you need a good chunky thing. I've got a set of yellow levers that must be about an inch wide.
Anyway... the wheels do ride really well. Mine are built on Spin hubs, which are nice too. Bit noisy, but not as bad as eg Mavic or Chris King hubs. Built at Rat Race Cycles in Nunhead.
Anyone use another tyre with them? One that might be easier to change? -
NOW SOLD
For sale is my beloved Neil Orrell. Prettiest bike I've ever owned, maybe will ever own, but it's too precious to be locked up on the pavement and not as fast as the carbon bikes, so it sits around the house, looking pretty, annoying my GF.
It's 531 steel, and I assume like all Orrell builds would have been a custom frame for someone back in the day. The gruppo is Campag Daytona - what is now called Centaur due to a trademark infringement. Standard (52/39) double up front, 11-26 at the back. The front mech, for some reason, is Chorus.
The wheels are Mavic Aksiums, with conti Gatorskins on them. Both are in very decent nick.
Tips the scales at 9.855kg, which I reckon is pretty light for a 531 bike.
There's a few scuffs and chips I'm afraid - it has been locked outside a few times and sadly some bastards aren't as careful with their locks as I am when locking up next to it. Oh well. The decals are looking tired in a couple of places too.
Overall though, it's such a lovely thing. Look at the lugs! The shimmer of the paint! The shine of the chrome! Can you tell I'm not all that keen on the idea of selling it?
Really hard to know what it's worth, but I'm asking£575£550 based on similar sales on this site. Do let me know if I'm way off on price here.... unless I'm underselling, in which case shut up and give me your money. If the buyer prefers, I've got its original wheels too - a set of Mavic CXP30s. But they're tubs, which is why I'm not using them. Immaculate though can't guarantee the tyres aren't a bit old and past it just due to rubber fatigue.
Any questions, insults, whatever - let me know.
Oh, based in SE15 so pickup from here or near. -

I'll drag this thread up some more if that's ok - couldn't see a better one.
I'm after some denim shorts cut for cycling. Just want to avoid having a seam grind down my undercarriage if at all possible.
What are the good looking options out there? Swrve look ok-ish, Levis don't seem to do anything denim, Osloh are stupidly expensive at full price... -

With a heavy heart, I'm going to do an N-1. Absolutely love this beauty, but she's not fast enough for the long rides and she's too pretty to leave locked up outside on the commute.
Literally just googled Orrell for the first time, having always assumed it was one of those defunct Northern frame builders, but no, he's still going! http://www.neilorrellcycles.co.uk/
Apparently all are hand built custom things. You certainly don't see many of these about, but this certainly turns heads.58cm, 531 steel, full Campag Daytona group (this is what they called Centaur for a year before some car people got upset and moaned about trademarks) with a Chorus front mech. Wheels are modern Mavic Aksiums with 23mm Conti Gatorskins on em... but, if anyone would prefer, I've got the wheels the bike came with too - Mavic CPX30s - they're far more in keeping with the bike but annoyingly are tubulars.
The bike as it is in the above photo comes in at a surprisingly low 9.855kg. The ride quality is forgiving rather than race tight, as you'd expect. Top tube feels quite long to me - I'm 6'1" and if anything it's a mite too stretched out, but I think I've got long legs rather than a long torso. There's a few minor cosmetic dings and scratches - a few paint chips, and the rear mech looks like it got scratched after a fall. That was either the patch of ice I hit, or the daft dog who ran under the wheel (dog survived unscathed). Other than that, the paint has a beautiful metallic sheen, and the chrome is shiny and delicious. And those lugs! Oh those lugs.
I don't want to sell it I don't want to sell it I don't want to sell it :(
Any thoughts as to what it's worth? I had thought around £400.

Hi all,
I'm after a bike or F&F that can have racks and guards put on it.
54cm, 531 steel or better.
Looking for something that I'd be able to stick a modern gruppo onto too, so ideally needs 130mm rear spacing, though I guess I'd be amenable to cold setting an older frame if it wasn't to expensive.Hope someone can help!

Yeah, it does feel long for me - I'm 6'1" and ride a 58 with a 100mm stem normally. I guess you could always put a shorter stem on though.
