I like the sound of that, what does it mean? Tell me what were they doing? I love "people riding shitly" stories.
I'd bet the safety of single speed / single brake has been debated to death on this forum before. Sure you can ride any set-up safely if you know what you're doing* but the single speed / single front brake cyclists I've encountered don't seem to be that experienced and I wouldn't fancy it. The reason I brought it up was that I spot this set up every day now whereas a year ago I don't think I ever did.
This morning's particular bunch of nobbers were RLJ-ing, undertaking, moving out without looking, all the usual. The thing that got my goat in particular was that there was a chap on a road bike with his saddle bag wide open and flapping about. Two of the ne'er-do-wells overtook and didn't spare a breath to mention it so I caught up to him to tell him. Hanging's too good for 'em I say. [/Daily Mail]

Quick update:
The drop in session was packed so I didn't get an opportunity to chat with any of the officials attending. Most overheard rants were either about congestion (as this thread discusses) or about parking.I met the Haringey branch of the LCC on Monday; this issue is very much on their radar and they have seen the council about it already. The proposals seem to have a long way to go until they become reality so I guess we'll see how it all pans out.

Using Green Lanes to travel south and Wightman/Hornsey Park Road to go north is about the best compromise for commuting, as Sweaty suggests. People - myself included - do the Harringay leg regularly without indicent - it is just a bit of a ballache..
^this. GL from Finsbury Park to St Anne's Road at rush hour makes for an extremely good hazard perception exercise. Take it slowly until the road opens up a bit and then do a sprint up to Turnpike Lane as a reward.

A few WNTLYB I've spotted over the last few months:
I saw a brand-new-looking Raleigh Shopper on my way to work locked just like this, it was still there on my way home so they must be doing something right.
I've also started noticing a fair few lights (not cheap ones either) being left on locked-up bikes each morning that are still there in the evening. Popo must have caught all the theives.

A mate said he'd entered himself with the great man. They've never met but I still want it to be true!
I agree it's odd to pay 45 quid for a ride like this when you've ridden the Dynamo for free and the marketing makes me cringe. The stop with 'Itailian influenced' sausage rolls and croissants should be interesting. Still, once everyone has had their moan about the expense and disruption to commuters, we'll all sit down together to watch the opening ceremony and realise it's going to be fun. See you there you retro new-age geared fixie riders.

Out with knee-ouch. I'll set my ratio to spinny tonight though, just in case.

There's a lengthy but helpful GPS thread on the forum. After wading through I went with an Extrex 20 because it takes AA batteries (good for longer trips) and it works fine for cycling as long as you remember to look at it. I took a dozen other riders (strangers) on a 5km detour on the Cambridge 100 because I was concentrating too hard on staying upright on a very spinny downhill and didn't notice the turning.
