953 is a steel that is mainly produced to reduce weight and as such is even lighter in large diameter tubes. Ive had 3 frames in 953 and they seemed to have larger dia tubes than this one. But perhaps there is smaller dia tubes available in 953 aswell. I dont know Reynolds specs that well so i asked..
Looks wise i prefer smaller diameter tubes so its all good. Im just wondering if theres a significant weight savings on the smaller dia tubes over say 853.

Sounds like the return spring on the brake caliper. Its a common problem with weight weenie brakes, and one the reasons I went for slightly heavier calipers.
Thats what weird. My record 10 group has got zero gravitys with a really poor return spring yet no problems with rattleing. The SR 11 had both cantis and SR brakes mounted and they rattle is there regardless what i do. I think the play is at the bolt for the lever. Dont really bother me tho. Just abit annoying when it was newly installed to take away from that crisp feeling.
-
All record groups ive tried have been great. I still prefer my record 10 group to my SR 11 but thats not really a performance based opinion. More i like the look and hoods better and the levers feel more solid aswell. My sr levers can make abit of a rattling sound from time to time. No biggy but my record 10s dont.
My exp with campy says its pretty much setup and forget.. Good stuff.

Hehehe had this been before i bought it i for sure would be interested in a couple of tickets!
I now however think if i did get some tickets myself and actually won there would be sour grapes or thoughts of foul play no matter how the actual lottery took place so i think ill have to pass on this one. + if i get what i want for it id be happy to c it with a new owner who loves it as much as i do. Got another cross allrdy myself. Nice thought tho :)

Yw. Tbh i dont think any ti finish ive seeen will be a match to that frame. It could still look great but it will be hard to find a good matching tone.. Brushed will be brighter for sure even if its been left unbuffed for awhile. Id still think thats your best bet tho.
Your frame seem to have more of a brown/yellow tone vs titaniums greyish tone in various degrees. Perhaps thats just a photo illusion tho.

Raw steel look isent very specific either in terms of finish.
Moots frames are blasted. It gives a less shiny surface than a brushed frame. More grey if you will. Moots stems are also blasted but the seatposts are brushed.
Brushed ti parts / frames will be very close in finish to stainless steel frames (unless those are polished in wich case they will be more shiny/silvery) Merlin, litespeed and the tiarrow bikes in my previous posts are brushed.
Polished ti is very very shiny and a pita to keep clean.
The Serotta was polished.Satin ti seems to vary abit between builders. Id say its close to a moots finish but without the "shine".
Some builders call their finish raw ti. This usually means a darker (for ti) grey.
Most if not all ti surfaces becomes less shiny more grey with time. Easy to fix but perhaps thats more what you are looking for anyways?
Easiest finish to maintain is easily brushed. Wich i would say is also the most common finish.

I was looking at Bjorns selection of titanium cross bikes with a very large amount of envy earlier.
I'd love to take a magic wand and clone my SystemSix, but with canti's, and clearance for 35c tyres+mud.
Cheers!
You should get one of your own. Take me up on the offer n ill include the si sl cranks for 250 complete with bearings. As singlespeed id imagine ud be sub 7 fairly easy with nice wheels :-) -
What r u gonna use it for? Ive had ss cross that was pretty light but a rear der dont weight much and its alot easier to find light wheels for gears than ss or fixed. So the weight isent an issue since u still need brakes n levers regardless. 1x10 is deffinetly worth it imo but i never cared much for no gears..

10.62kg as is, my Boardman that is.
With hollowgrams? What else did you change from stock and what was the stock weight? Thats the biggest drawback with discs still, the weight that is. Id have guessed abit less from just looking at it. Those cranks make every bike look light or is it just that they usually sit on light bikes.. Nice bike for the cash if one was looking for discs. My fav would still be the old poprad tho. Great do it all bike both in disc and canti.

Thanks Bjammin. Yeah the merlin was my fav too, to look at atleast. Dident really take to riding fixed unfortunetly.
hmm i dunno. Most in the last 3-4 years or so. Litespeed was my first ti and i think that was like 2007 but dident really crave bikes back then so most came and went since 09 i think. I like building up bikes as much as riding them. Its a blessing n a curse at the same time :)
Campy usually tries pretty hard to be more expensive than shimano so im guessing this will be true for the Athena / Ultegra comparisson aswell.
