Similar incident to me a few years back. They didn't ask to inspect my bike. It was noted in the report that it was fixed but the issue of brakes was never brought up. Can indeed take a while but totally worth it in my opinion. You can claim for money lost from earnings as well as your travel during that period, medical expenses and loss of leisure. I used Dowse Co solicitors on a no win no fee basis. If you have a witness with a telephone number I'd say it's a very good idea to get in touch with them.
