Thanks for the replies all. I think the issue is compounded by the fact that the staircase is quite fucking narrow too, which pretty much rules out a handrail. It seems like people is talking about sanded/treated floorboards rather than additional sheet(?) flooring (I have engineered oak downstairs)

How do you find wooden floor on the stairs? My stairs are quite steep (people always comment on this when they come round for the first time). I'd like to extend the downstairs wooden floor to stairsa nd landing but worry about potential for increased slippage. Did you consider this?

I have the same model as the one in the classifieds. DO IT. It's my favourite bike by a mile. I switched to my CDF for commuting duties and duly switched back because it didn't put a smile on my face like the Day One.

I already ride almost exactly the same route on my very ratty Genenis DayOne. I was just considering whether a Brompton would be up to the task or not (or more accurately, whether I would be up to the task on a Brompton)

How far are people riding on their Bromptons on the regular? Yes I know you can tour on one etc but how far do you usually ride one in comfort around London?

Not everything has to cost a fortune. I did a whole bathroom (with the exception of a new toilet, because the previous one was fine) for less than £3k, including paying for a plasterer (skim of all walls) plumber to install new shower and associated pipework and move the toilet/soil pipe and a tiler (walls and floor). No mates rates, just got a few quotes for each.

I was quoted £11k for a turn key solution. I saved money by sourcing all the bits myself and arranging the trades myself. I don't think it would have looked any nicer if I went for the £11k option, although it would of course have been less admin for me.

I want to chop/trim tome mudguard stays.

1. Is a Dremel (or Dremel-style tool e.g. this ) the best option for this?
   
2. Is it a tool that people regularly use? i.e. should I just buy my own

I think it's quite obvious. It's all modeled around getting the bike in the front door and hung up in the study as quickly as humanly possible.
