**ALL SOLD NOW
**
Rucksacks don't look cool. Messenger bags look cool. I did a bit of research and then tried out what my research suggested were the best. Alas I'm clearly not cool enough - I can't get on with messenger bags, and ended up switching back to a rucksack (there's no hope for me).So, anyway, for sale:
MER Custom Messenger Bag - **SOLD **- Used it a couple of times, basic, but my favourite, hence the usage.
Bagaboo Standard - **SOLD **- as new, bought as unused on ebay and never used it myself.
Bagaboo Workhorse - SOLD - used, but in good nick. Bought this secondhand on ebay, and then used it maybe twice.
I can post up more/better pictures if needed. Can meet anywhere in between Bethnal Green and Elephant & Castle, or can post anywhere in UK for £5

Think I'm lprobably jst gonna get something secong hand. Not sure how to get my eye in in terms of ebay bargains. To my mind this looks like it would have been a good deal (if I'd not just forgotten about when it ended) - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260830150541&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Not concerned about looks (other than not being too keen on the really garish, or blingy stuff) and just want something in good mechanical order, than I can fettle into some semblance of steathy goodness. Any tips gratefully appreciated.

Garnett - had to take massive detour home after sat in flat while looters ransacked sportsshop opposite, then Argos 2 doors down and then other shops, with complete impunity, for 2 hours, before setting fire to a bin opposite, all the time nobody answering 999 calls. Riot police attended and dispersed crowd before leaving them to continue looting for a bit before we had to leave the flat to pick up a friend who had been stopped at a cordon 1km down the road.
Walked up street with riot police outside some premises unable to stop looters going to shops literally across the road.
Got to cordon and was told nobody was allowed across it. So, 3 hours after looting began, and 1 hour after the looters had had 2 hours of unhindered looting, we as residents were the only people to be inconvenienced by the police, and had to leave the cordon, then walk round the back streets of the estate to loop round and come in via a side street (effective cordon, Mr Policeman, by the way).
Is this just going to descend into 'first world problems'?
Oh, and the shops were all closed so I couldn't get any Hake. And so much litter on the streets in the morning.
(Actually that's a lie, the clear up, from what it looked like at 10pm to what it looked like at 7am was impressive)
That said, when your flat is surrounded by 30 criminals all laughing and comparing spoils, with fires burning in the street, and no emergency services are visible or contactable for 2 hours, and people are looking up at you on the phone, you do start wondering how you would best defend the building...
I know the police were stretched, and the riot police were very brave, but to then not be able to employ some commonsense 3 hours too late, and enforce a cordon that did nothing to stop people getting on to the looted street, and instead just pushed lawful residents into the estate back streets at 10 pm, took the biscuit. -
90% of the rioters I saw in Peckham were young black males but then roughly 80 to 90% of the young men I see in Peckham (say when going shopping for example) are black. From travelling along Walworth Rd (although I don't live there I don't live far away) I'd say the vast majority of young men I see in that area are black. So the fact that most of the rioters both on Walworth Rd and in Peckham were black shouldn't really come as much of a surprise.
... I don't think you're being racist it's just the population of these areas, non?
It's an unsavory aspect, and there are plenty of people out there ready to quote ENoch Powell, and I don't really want to be put in with their lot, but similarly I don't want to go in with those who blithely shout "racist" at anyone who mentions the elephant in the room. (Not you, VanUden, by the way)Are people seeing the make-up of the groups coming together to tidy up the mess?

Thanks for the advice. I've been reading a bit of the site - mostly threads drooling over old frames, but I'm finding it hard to identify the common pitfalls.
I appreciate all across the interweb there's a good few points to score in your forum pointing newbies to the search option, but I did do a search for (beginners, starting, first)(build, bike) etc, but yeah, a general overview is quite hold to find.

On the commute to work I never change gear, and I'm killing my old Trek.
I'm not rich, and I have no experience building bikes, but I have a reasonable set of tools, and I'm keen to learn.
I need a solution that's the right balance of ease of build (beginner), finance (pretty skint) and decent performance. Yeah, so that'll be the moon on a stick, right?
I'd like to buy some new wheels for my Trek, so I could hopefully use the old Bontrager Select wheels on the new build.
I was reading about Visp frames on here, and they sound fairly decent and cheap.
What else would I need and how cheaply, and simply could I build a bike?
My list so far is:
Frame: Visp (frame, fork, and seatpost), £145, or a Dolan frame on ebay for ~£80 (needs a fork)
(fork, seatpost)
Bottom Bracket
Headset
Brake
Brake Lever
Headset
cranks
pedals
chain
seat
seat clamp
brake hangers front / rear if you use cantilever brakes
stem
handlebars
(wheels/tires/tubes)Are there any pitfalls finding parts for odd sizes.

My beloved Walworth Road... well not quite, but my most direct road to get out has been trashed... got a meeting there on Wed, better be safe by then.
Live just off the Walworth Road.http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/blog/2011/aug/08/london-riots-third-night-live#block-45
Been a fair bit of damage.
1 or 2 riot police outside each smashed up shop.
Turkish 24 hr shop still OK thank feck.
Jaded my opinion of one subset of the demographic though to be honest. Pretty definitive that that subset utterly lack any moral compass or slightest regard for any other group within society. It was soley that subset perpetrating the criminality (laughing, smiling, brazen). From the numbers it cannot have been less than 90% of that demographic.
I'm certainly going to give far less benefit of the doubt to that subset in the future.

New here - just want to ask about how to make a new single speed/fixie as painless as possible - need 3 posts - been a rocky night here on Walworth Road SE17. Fire, 100s of looter, riot police. Nothing to do with any politics, the shooting, or disillusionment. These guys were well dressed, well fed, laughing and only concerned with nicking trainers and electrical consumer goods.
Utter scum.
Forgot to say (just realised when I got them out) but the Workhorse was sent off for a refurb before I bought it, so although the outside is used, the inside is in very good condition.
