So brand new set of campagnolo record pista cranksets. Install. Everyhting fine put on dust caps screw tight, one extra turn for because didnt look completely flush and it rounded in one second- completely. Incredible thing managed to do the same thing with the other side. Would like to check if those cranks are one up tight enough before i ride them but cant get these stupid campag dust caps off. The metal was soft as butter, no warning or mention of this in the instructions. never rounded a screw in my life. Tried the glued allen key didnt work. Cannot saw a slot because they are more or less flush.
Help please. -
So Im buying the current campagnolo record pista crankset for street use- no velodrome
Do i buy a) phil wood iso BB 10.5mm with italian cups (adjustable and sealed)
b) campagnolo record pista BB italian(not adjustable nor sealed)
According to the database only one person is running the phil wood BB. Which is the better option, what do you reckon?? PW fractionally more expensive.
I have aproximately 42mm chainline in the back with PW hubs. But had a of a problem with a pait of stronglight, read above if your interested.
cheers

Need help badly, i have a stronglight mygal crankset and a 90s Italian columbus frame with Italian BB. I asked stronglight which bottom to use they said their 103mm JP400 which is only available in englidh 68mm cups. Therefore I bought a Velo Orange Italian 70mm JIS 103mm spindle BB. Turns out I could not tighten cranks sufficiently without them arriving all the way to the frame/BB.
Is this a result of the difference between italian and english cups sizes 68-70mm does this mean the spindle is effectively 2mm shorter and that is the reason the cranks would not tighten all the way? Or did stronglight recommend the wrong size bottom bracket.
I then tried a 107mm bracket and this worked for a bit but the chainline is off, and i can feel a lot of horizontal force/inefficiency. Then the 107mm bottom bracket cup came out on the non drive side and pulled the chainring and drivside arm all the way to the frame seizing everything and resulting in a walk home.
Taking the bottom out the shell in the middle had come loose and the axel is no longer centred. I thought these things were ment ot be fixed. Is all this a result of the horizontal force and bad chainline. I cannot think of any other reason.
If i buy for example Sugino RD2 (that i know need a 103mm BB) and a 103mm Italian 70mm bottom bracket will it work with the frame or will it be 2mm too short as oppposed to a 68mm English BB. I dont know and where iam there is no good bike shop.
Help please!

Hey is this one still for sale?? Would you be able to ship to spain?(if so how much?) Otherwise i could maybe get a mate in london to pick it up. I presume its standard english thread bottom bracket 68mm. Just out of interest could this be build with new components back as a tourer without too much hassle? I have only really had experience with building a couple of fixed gears.(and have seen enough compatability problems with them).

Charlie The Bike Monger is shit. I entered my current postage address on the website with a note attached saying post to this address not paypal address and low and behold he posts to the paypal address, when i sent an email he said it s my problem deal with it. It ended up costing me around 45 pounds for my old man to post back(far far away). Which is retarded because i paid the postage to my europe address in the first place and he complained about being out of pocket for the postage to (far far away). Pain in the arse and the pocket.

Col,
Nah I bought them from a bike shop on the internet, they are speaking with the campag warranty ppl but its taking a while.
The dust caps are aluminium with a 5mm slot and the hole is really shallow so it literally rounded with one turn, the allen key was steel i guess.
The campag caps are 21mm diameter. Pretty annoying there was no mention of their delicacy in the instructions.
I could try this dremel idea. I guess that is maybe the next step, but i dont have that tool and it sounds a little hectic.
