No. Its not a decent lock. Thats why I bought it for myself, because it is no good, and I really want someone to come along and steal my Capo 5.
kicks66, I started this thread, and have been heavily involved with promoting bike locking security for this forum, and all those that visit it. All the locks in the list are recommended, but No, that lock is possibly not as good as a Fahg Mini, or some of the best locks from the best manufacturers. BUT it is used with confidence by many, including me. I have answered your question in the jokey manner I felt you might have been asking it in.
Cable locks are NOT recommended. Not at all - not any of them.
I was asking just because it seems that for a price thats so much less than the other types, its almost as if you could use multiple ones rather than a single Fahg (I know its bad using multiple of the same type, but you get the idea)
The cable I was just going to use for the front wheel in combination with a D-lock, I guess ill go buy one of them today.
On that note, I've seen online and in a few stores you can get hold of an Evolution Mini for £30 but none seem to be open on Sunday, does anyone know a shop that might stock it at that price open on a Sunday (quite a specific request...)

Heavy Duty D-Locks/U-Locks: (Primary security)
18mm/19mm:
GRP Superdeals U-Lock [18mm] () £16.50 (square barrel - this is the lock I own)
http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/directory/1284/52272.php (Wilson Cycles, PeckhamSo is this actually a decent lock? I was looking at one of those Evolution Dlock/cable combo packs, but ive already got a fairly thick Abus cable lock. I was thinking about the NY but it almost seems that thieves would target it specifically as its so common/unique looking.

you'd need to change the chainset to a double of your choice, the STI levers would work the same, although the LH one wouldn't need so many clicks as with the triple.
I could split the bike if needed, as I'd use the parts on another frame
The alternative is swop 105 double kit from the Giant, or have it resprayed @ £80 and it still wouldn't cost £500
Have you got a link to the Giants actual model?
Would it be worth building it? Surely it would be cheaper that way and I could put on the parts I actually want.

got an as new and upgraded with carbon seat post bars and stem one of these, I've hardly used it........
I do have a "dog" large Giant TCR too, no paint on it though as the previous owner decided to take it off for some unknown reason :-( but its easily rectified. All works though, 105 10 speed double on it.
Theres a lot of gears on that thing, how easy would it be to change that into a double? And how much would it cost to make the change? I am interested in it though.

tell us about your cheap second hand one, whats wrong with it and why you want to change and that might give a good idea as to recommendations
I cant stress how poor this bike was, it cost me £40 with downtube shifters, the pedals snapped off after a year and a half, but it was only used for short (~10 minute) rides around uni.
Im looking now for something for a commute into London, so fairly flat. I went to look at an Allez in my lbs but I didnt like the thumb shifters, as I quite enjoy riding on the drops.
Also, when I commute I dont really take much with me except some clothes so I dont need to worry about panniers or carrying heavy loads, and ill be commuting between home and work which has an underground storage so carrying locks around isnt much of an issue.

The 2011 Allez with 2300 is about £500, to get a 2011 Allez Comp 105 will be at least twice as much. That's a pretty big budget stretch. Of course, most of us wouldn't be looking at any kind of Allez for commuting, but that's a separate discussion.
Yer, im already stretching a bit to get a basic Allez (student budget), not sure what other options I really have at that price range.

There are many alternatives if you cast your net wider than the Specialized catalogue, have a look at Schwalbe, Continental and Bontrager.
I got the Armadillo suggestions as im buying the bike from a Specialized store, are the others better? How expensive are they? The guy in the store said hed fit Armadillos for an extra £10 which seems alright.

A.E.Wilson's Cycles doesn't have their own website. The link in that post takes you to their contact details. And yes, you can still buy them. If not from them, then also in East Street Market....if you're in London. Actually, its cheaper there, but then they don't pay ground rent all year.
Whereabouts in East Street Market?

So you put the rear wheel of the bike into the rack? Wasnt sure the bike would stay up like that without some support?
