"Chainrings: 54 tooth Chainring
Cassette: Fuji 15 tooth Sprocket with Lockring"Really?? Has Mr Evans got this correct?

that's how all frame geom is given. How the hell is the manufacturer supposed to know where you'll have your saddle on the rails / where your hips will be?
If you draw a horizontal line from the red dot that's at the top of the head tube, back to the centre of the seat tube, that would be the effective top tube length. (Note this is the "little bit" more than B2. That measure is a fixed property of the frame geo (assuming your front and rear wheels are the same size!), so independent of seat set-up, etc.
-
I guess, though the diagram sort of shows B2 ending at the actual seat tube / top tube joint, not higher and further back which is where it would join if the top tube were horizontal. OK guess I can't do geometry.
+1.
I think the original question was a fair one. My guess is that the actual effective top tube length = "B2 plus a little bit", which is not really covered by any of the letters in the diagram.

Hi all, currently debating whether or not to get my old road bike back into repair, either to sell on or use as a winter bike, but will probably sell if it's worth more than a couple of bob. Would appreciate some thoughts on that.
A 1987 Ron Cooper - custom made for me after some good O-level results. Columbus SL, 54cm. Resprayed c. late 90s. Unfortunately not quite as 'period correct' as it used to be, since I've replaced odd bits over time without being able to afford replacement Campag Record. It's a real mish-mash of Campag/Shimano at various levels. So the build currently looks like this:
wheels - Mavic MA40 on Campag Super Record large flange hubs
Cinelli bars/stem
Stronglight headset
Campag Super Record brakes and levers
Shimano Dura Ace aero seat post
Rolls San Marco saddle
Shimano Ultegra front mec
Shimano Tiagra rear mec
Shimano RX100 shifters
Stronglight chainset - I love this.I might be able to dig out some Campag Super Record pedals but my dad's shed is a minefield. Possibly a CSR rear mec as well...
I'll need a new bottom bracket for it to be fully functioning but other than that it's in good working order. A few scratches and dinks on the frame but no rust.
Obviously I'll take some better pics if it comes to selling, but just as an idea...

Planet X carbon track bike complete plus extra free set of 50mm carbon track wheels for £900. Crazy value.

Bastards! Don't you just hate it when you buy a bike and then 3 months later they throw in a free pair of carbon wheels on top. Wonder if they'd send me a cheap pair if I ask nicely?

So is the PX ok for size then, Vince? Are you keeping it?
Also the first outing for mine yesterday, and loved it. Unfortunately I may still have to do the odd session on hire bikes due to lack of transport, and storage issues at the track. I'm not sure I fancy a 15 mile undulating round trip from Blackheath on a 49x15 with no brakes...

I considered having a trundle up and down the cul-de-sac down the road on mine but I'm paranoid about puncturing one of the tubs. It's a bit messy down there. Still have memories of unstitching, stitching, gluing etc. from when I used to run tubs on my road bike 20+ years ago. Right old palaver! I'll save it for the new track.

Hi, I'm also 5'10" (31" inside leg) and recently spent an awful long time deciding between the small and medium Planet X. I went with the small in the end, partly because it has the same top tube length as my PX road bike (which is a medium) but also because from my limited experience of using the hire bikes at HH I've preferred the feel of the 54 rather than 56.
That being said, I calculated that there's not an awful lot in it and I could have achieved exactly the same position on the medium. I went with the 110mm handlebar stem rather than the standard 90mm specified, and have the spacers as they came delivered (i.e. one spare above the clamp). So the small maybe offers more options for an aggressive position but the reach can be sorted according to which stem you use.
If it's any help here's what it looks like, except I made some more precise measurements after the photo was taken and the saddle is now about an inch lower. (The 't' in Planet on the seat stem just reaches the clamp.) Having adjusted the saddle to the same pedal height as my road bike, the reach is now marginally longer on this, with about an extra couple of inches drop.
Unfortunately as yet I've not had a chance to give it a test ride. All I can do is spend the next few weeks looking at it till they've put the track down!
This is my ''favourite''...

I'm sure those superman-reach aero bars come in handy for the constant uphill.
