I want to buy a road bike but i am not particually keen on carbon. One because the a over priced but also are they as strong as alloy?

I have a raleigh old 1970's ish racer, i took the original cranks, pedels off they were to heavy and replaced them with peugoet carbolite ones but the front derailer doesnt change gear from the big cog to the little one and it hits the pedel.

Also i tryed to put the peugoet derailer on the raleigh and broke it and put another derailer on from a mountain bike and none of them work.

The bike im on now i actually got down the dump for £10. I cant believe someone would throw it away. It even had the plastic covering on the mud guards. Sweet!!!
