I'd really like to get a 55 cm road bike. I currently have a 55cm jamis sputnik fixed gear bike and enjoy riding it, but would like to get a geared bike to do some longer distances. I'd like an old rather than new bike (in age and looks). What should I be looking for? I've not ridden a geared bike in years and would love some advice/help!

I searched but couldn't find. Why is my Gatorskin so hard to put on the wheel? I'm left with about 4 inches not on and one inner tube punctured trying to change it. I've watched youtube videos and changed tyres before but am having no luck here. Any advice for an obvious noob?

I'm located in Brighton and my housemate's just got an old Raleigh for pittance he wants to convert in fixed or single.

He wants to get a flip flop rear wheel for as cheap as possible (damn recession) and was wondering if anyone here could help him out?

I reckon he'll go for a rear flip flop but I've sent him this thread so he can have a look. Again, thanks for your help!

It's got horizontal drop outs, the crank has two or three gears. I need to measure the spacing to be sure as all I know is it's a standard Raleigh road frame 501 tubing. I think ideally he wants to get a flip flop hub but it's all on a budget!

I suppose he just needs cranks and a wheel, then we can start to strip away all the stuff and make it look nice!

My housemate just got hold of a raleigh in relatively good working order and wants to convert it to fixed or a single speed. Has anyone got a rear wheel and cranks. And I suppose anything else he'd need for 'the change'.

I used the search function to look for Brighton specific routes and couldn't find a lot. I thought it could be a good idea to have a few in one place? I'm pretty new to cycling (2 months in) so the only routes I know are the basic Brighton to Hove to Worthing and Brighton to Saltdean.

Anyone have any fun rides to suggest?
