or french or belgium or dutch of german or swedish or .....
you get the idea, anyone but UK-ish
On what ground do you think this?
I come from Belgium, and though I never cycled out of London, I feel a bit safer than I would feel in the streets of Brussels or even a small city like Liege. Of course Flemish cities are more bike-friendly but even though I think I would shit myself more than once a day riding in Brussels. I haven't been there for a while though(one and half year), maybe the cycling mania has developed there as well? Maybe people started thinking that cycling is not just a Sunday morning sport but also a way to get around in town? that would be about time though, for a 'cycling nation'.
Isn't it more like a 'the grass is greener on the other side' thingy?
I do think also that the more the drivers will ride bikes, even only when they are youngster before having a licence, they will be more considerate to cyclists. And stop thinking of us as Untermenschen because we don't have a box of steel around us.
I do also think that the usual British politeness and calm can help something even in Big Luhnduhn, just take a look at the drivers in Paris, they are really nuts !

So as I tested tonight the lightset I bought from Jejames, I thought I could share my first impressions.
The rear light does the job, clipped on the bag it is enough bright and act as expected at the moment. We will see about how long it will last.
The front light is esthetically very simple, not very beautiful to be honest, but it doesn't really matter to me. It takes 4 AAA batteries, and the system how the batteries are installed inside seems to be a bit cheap. Also the mount bracket is not very practical and it was a bit tricky to put it on my oversized bar. I wish they used the same system than Cateye for instance. It is a bit heavier than my Cateye HL-EL135 but definitely more powerful, I would say twice more. There is two mode, one flickering, to traumatise people that want to stare at it (seriously it does not seem to be a good idea) the beam is quite straight so you have not much visibility on the sides, and then I do think you might need a secondary front light 'to be seen'. Although my ride through Hyde Park on the commute was really pleasant and the beam was really helpful to see where I was going. Although I wouldnt advice off road, I think that at that price, it is a great front light for commuting in the city, as long as you have another one to be seen from the side ?Hopefully it will last looooong :) -

Hi there. Not sure where to post this but this thread sounds about right. I have bought recently this lovely bike on this forum, but I am trying to get the fork that has been drilled to accept a 23s tyre on the front. At the moment it is a 20s, and I would like to be able to ride it this winter without being afrait to blow out to often the front tyre. Would like to commute with it as well. So I would like to fit a Re-Fuse on front but it is too tight.
This is with the 20s on
IMG_7695 by pardon-my-french, on FlickrThis with the 23s Maxxis Refuse on. Wheel from beater, not very true, but even when removing the brake, it is very tight, and rubbing because of the untrueness of the wheel (if I can fit a 23s I will buy a proper good wheel),
IMG_7704 by pardon-my-french, on FlickrOkay so my question would be. Is there anyway to fit a 23s on the fork, or is it hopeless and I should chase for another fork ? Is there any workaround to make the brake fit the tyre and not rubbing it? I am thinking a special sort of caliper ? More pictures here on my Flickr if needed as well as another caliper that I unsucessfully tried to fit.
I think that if I have to, I will fit another fork for the winter and the commute, where I'll put another brake and even another bar, and save the thin tyre/brake/drop bars for the day I want to impress the girls/forumengers. Though I will be very happy to know if something can be done to fit a 23s puncture resistant tyre in this stunning fork. Thanks for any information/advice that you could have.

Cheers everyone for the advices ! I have opted for the jejames one, I will see what they are really worth then ! :) I have already a secondary front light on me usually when riding at night, which allow me to be visible by side. I might go for a flea in a next future, because I love the idea of USB charging and mini size. I guess it is also easily clipable on clothing/bags ?

So, I need a new rear light. Well I still have another one but I got bored to change the fixing straps everytime I choose to ride the other bike :)

Blackburn Flea Rear light USBAny experience?
Also,
There was a super offer that I recommended on here recently, and many forumengers have bought it. It might suit you also, and the bonus is that because its a 2 light combo, you get a spare rear light. This can prove very handy. Only £12.95 too, so it doesn't break the bank.

3 watt front light and 1/2 watt rear light.
So what's worth 1/2 watt for a rear light? I wouldnt mind get a more powerful front light at the same time at that price. But my main priority is still the rear light
Any experience or recommendations ? I'm cycling usually around London, and maybe the darker that I experience riding is going through Hyde Park. So no 'big deal'...
