All this chat made me dig out the sweet fixeh for my commute this morning.

I may have gone from overgeared on the 2019 HDIJ to under in time for 2020. Hopefully that and the 2 stone dropped means I may not be quite so far off the back this time round

Yeah to be honest if I am going to start spending I'd want it to recharge Garmin/Phone aswell. I usually carry a battery pack with me, I guess it would just take away the need for that on a multi day tour (not that i get to do many of them anyway)

Wowzers, Dynamo hubs/lights aren't cheap are they.

That's the first Audax done then, solo first 100k with 30 of it into a brutal headwind along the coast (not sure i saw over 15kph on that section), then joined another group for final 80k.
Stupidly only took day lights as I thought I'd well be done before dark (first error), then rear light failed riding through Kent lanes in pitch black, was lucky I joined others otherwise I'd have been in real trouble!
Lessons learned if there's to be more of these done

Not the best start, half way here and realised I forgot my shoes.

I was on my arkose. I saw you as i was turning onto the bridge to go over it and got caught at the lights the other side.

Only just started going that way to avoid London Bridge its so much nicer!

Probably going to drive. Thought about riding out and doing the 100k instead but my wife doesn't need the car so will use that instead.

Does mean a first outing for my bike rack so will probably have to drive at snails pace as I would like my bike to still be there when I arrive

Ah right yeah I think I have the L ones and I am only a size 9! And they are SNUG, only been using them this week and I no longer have leg hair around 6 inches up from my ankle from taking them off!

Got some of those Velotoze things which seem to do the trick.

....plus full length mudguards which dont hurt!

I was expecting the same but had a quite chilled one this morning. Hardly anyone on the roads and a bit of a tailwind. And new overshoes so at least i had dry toes this morning

Took a left at Tooley street to avoid London Bridge and Bank Junction and arrived pretty chilled for the first time in a long time so one of my better ones!

Had someone in a people carrier squeeze past me in a sea of revs to get from the lights to the next set 50 metres up the road, as i rolled past I stopped and asked him if he lives his life a quarter of a mile at a time. Obviously not a fast and furious fan as rather than congratulate me on my hilarious reference he just said fuck off c*nt.

Looks like the cambridge autumnal 200 is going to be the one to kick off this cake and bike adventure

Bloody typical every one that's close(ish) clashes with plans (weddings/holidays/anniversary).

Having lost a bit of enthusiasm for riding and spending a summer of dotwatching I've decided to join Audax UK (under LFGSS CC) to give myself an excuse to get out more at the weekends and do more than my 100k surrey hills and back excursion!!

Now to find a calendar event that's relatively close. Think ill dip my toes in with 100km to get myself going!
