I would keep any carpet until you have got the majority of other work done. Its amazing how your nice newly sanded floorboard get fucked by work in the house (as someone who is seeing this happen right now). Having a carpet may encourage trades to be a bit more careful / tidy and then when all that is done you can sand and fill gaps if needed.
I'm unsure how much insulation you'll be getting from upper floor carpets, but you fill gaps or whatever pre-sanding.

How do you deal with pipe work that falls below an airtight membrane? Is it a case of cutting and taping around said pipes?
This is on my to do list for next year. We have insulation but opted for no membrane as we’re having new heating put in and the membrane would have been hacked to shit. I’m mindful of all the pipework from sink/bath/kitchen plus rad pipes that will need to be navigated.

It was an 8mm thick vertically sliding unit that I installed behind the sash and case windows (internally). The windows each had a slight bay (very old solid wall house) so I could leave a 100mm gap between the window and the secondary unit. That kind of gap was also really beneficial.
Never had any issues with condensation in the 2+ years we had them.

I’ve heard good things about gecko glazing. Cut to size “secondary glazing”.
In our last place we bought 8mm glass secondary glazing units from
Clearview and the difference was insane. Appreciate that if you’re getting windows done some time you might not want to pay for something like that.Have a look at Gecko though!

Nice work! Did you use an de-chlorinating stuff after? I've weighing up getting/borrowing a pond hoover for ours to give it a really good clean as we have some fish / frogs / newts and I'm a little unsure about successfully emptying the pond of all that to clean it out without hurting something in the process.

Yeah its different in Scotland. I'm going down the ASHP route next year, and the reason for the delay is that I have to install internal insulation on sloped ceilings as it was flagged in the EPC. Scottish Gov will not release funds until my post ASHP installation confirms those measures have been taken.
Its a little frustrating but overall its probably something I should do, I just wish I didn't HAVE to do it to get an ASHP as my current heating system is a bag of shit.

Will take longer to heat up. But will warm the room quicker (I'm sure there are some maths involved here) and will stay warmer for longer...
