Not that I'm complaining or hoping for zero costs to get away with.
Guess I was trying to fool my self a bit with getting away without giving enough attention for service after a long period of work the bike has done. Simply checking the chain and trueness of a wheel is just not enough.
Must have finally reached the point where more service is needed and will do so, once parts arrive. That's true, I also have my lazy days and splash the cash on a train. Which is not a bad thing and can be a relieve if you do happen to be just too knackered to through yourself on a bike. Though it begins to hurt once you start wasting your 'service money' on public transport.

Damn, just ordered cranks, BB and pedals. About time these shitty platform/spd Shimanos get thrown off, though I'm not sure if I need new cranks. Spares never hurt, no?
I was advised to try sorting out the creaking with a new BB, as my mechanic did point out I'm a harsh rider and it doesn't surprise him if components begin to disintegrate below my saddle.
Meh, cycling isn't all that cheap after all.
Sadly, my 20 km commute is also coming to its end in two weeks. -

That would make the game boring.
Anyway, I'm not having so much pleasure at the moment as the power transmission is creaking like mad. Refitting cranks & pedals have not solved the problem so far. Now I hope it is the BB needing a refit. Hope this to be solved soon, as I do need it, and have to go far distances.

If you ride enough you'll adapt and be able to spin quicker, stay fresh and beast those hills you'd be walking. No bad thing at all.
this.
Mr 52/15 would have to go around 28mph to be doing a moderate 100rpm (which is a good cadence to be aiming for on the road) it's risible to hear people saying that 70-80GI is "too spinny".
I'm getting to the point and think 46:16 is getting spinier. But there is no point in going higher as there is enough metal on the road to be avoided with a gear you can move on quicker rather than having pure top speed.
That said, training will make you go higher. Certain aspects of terrain will affect your choice, and of course bragging. :)

Sorted my creaking!
Turned out it wasn't the drive train, despite that it was my pedalling producing them. Rather the seat post has enough play and thanks to a flexing frame. So that all got greased up properly, sorted.
Should consider replacing it by something slightly wider for a better fit.
