This. Catteries aren't without their drawbacks but I wouldn't relax knowing mine could be up to mischief, hurting themselves or falling sick so if you can't find a friend or two to pop round for a while each day, it may be your best option?

I thought about that and maybe once we are settled I can but I am worried they'll escape the communal gardens and find their way to the busy road behind us...and they have zero road sense. I want them to be happy though!

I'll soon be moving from a large house with a garden to a 1st floor flat with just a balcony, and I'm concerned my furballs will find it hard to adapt to being indoor cats, having spent the first 6 years of their lives roaming freely around sheltered back gardens in Camberwell. I've ordered some netting as I'd like to create a safe space for them on the balcony but wonder if anyone can offer any tips, advice, reassurance?! Will prob install some wall-mounted climbers similar to the lovely ones @LongAndWinding has too. Will figure out my furniture once the babies are sorted :)

I'm looking for a friendly, reliable and energetic barista to join our Beckenham Place Cafe weekend team. The cafe is in a splendid Georgian mansion, set within 132 acres of parkland, just 12 mins by train from Peckham Rye. The rate of pay is £10 per hour, the hours civilised (usually 10-5), and the food isn't bad either ;) We are a dog-friendly cafe.

Every item of news following this desperately sad case has made me so depressed - mainly about the death of Kim Briggs but also the way one idiot seems to have opened the floodgates for so much media negativity towards cyclists (like we needed that) and the legal consequences that may now ensue.

Journalism is so very different now what with the fast, cheap modern technology and social media. In a sense, we're all reporting all the time, from our phones. How much of it is true is another matter.

If you have managed to save up a little, why not go traveling for a few months? I know loads of people (me included) who had a better time exploring new places in their late 20s and 30s than in their on-a-shoestring gap years.

I love cooking and like 50% of the Italians abroad I'd like to turn that into a profession someday (catering? food stall? gastro pub?), but would hate to see that becoming something that ties me down and suffocates me, the same way my current job is doing now. To the point that I might not even ever try.

Are you planning to stop off anywhere and work for a while? If you want to be in the food biz my advice would be to get experience working in a busy restaurant kitchen, at any or many levels. You'll either love the environment, learn a lot and thrive on the buzz of service or realise that the reality is far from what you imagined and that maybe it's not for you. Running your own place obviously brings with it a lot of additional responsibilities/pressures too.

I'm certainly not trying to put you off and many great chefs have turned their favourite thing to do at the weekend in to a career, but better to avail yourself of as much info as possible before making any big decisions!

It sounds like a bloody difficult and emotional trip Al, but at least you're able to eat well and enjoy the pleasures of new foods, possibly my favourite thing about traveling.

You should come and visit me for lunch when you get back, if you fancy exploring some Persia-in-Peckham cuisine. I know you like mezze-type sharing food.

I'm so sorry for not keeping up with your very sad, then much happier cat news. He's very cute indeed.

It's frustrating but I wouldn't worry about his anxiety about the outside world just yet. My sister's cat was the same but now she isn't obviously fearful, she just doesn't particularly like it outside! I'm sure his confidence will increase over time, especially if you reward him - exposure therapy, innit? ;) When it's warmer it'll be easier for you to spend time out there with him too.
