Vitus 979 Peugeot 'Team' bike from mid eighties in really good condition.
Very light Vitus 979 bonded aluminium frame.
Size 57 cms
7 speed
Suntour rear dérailleur
Simplex 'Peugeot' front dérailleur
Spidel crankset
Excellent Wolber Tx Profil wheels with Mavic rims
Everything works perfectly!
The Vitus 979 was the first production aluminium frame and was used to great success by Sean Kelly in the Tour de France and Paris Roubaix. They still represent very good value if you're looking for a lightweight road bike.
I bought this one to replace my Vitus because the seatpost was seized. However, before it arrived, my friend released the seatpost using penetrating oil, so this one is now surplus to requirements. Which is annoying.
I've only taken it for a quick ride after it was re-assembled after postage, and it was excellent.
£340
Sorry if there are any doubles in the photos...

Vitus 979 with Dura Ace derailleurs, brakes, chainset & hubs.
Shifters: Claris (modern).
Wheels: Dura Ace hubs and Mavic Open 4 CD rims
Stem: 3TTT
Seatpost: Dura Ace (?)
Bars: Cinelli
Headset: Shimano 600Everything works perfectly. The Claris shifters work really well with the Dura Ace front and rear derailleurs and 8 speed cassette. Shifting is dead on.
Dura Ace 7400 (7402?) 8 speed STI shifters are available on eBay quite often for around 80 quid if you want the full Dura Ace look.
The seatpost is secured with a grubscrew (it´s a post ´86 frame) but that works fine too.
All in all a brilliant, light bike that is a match for most modern bikes, but looks a lot nicer IMHO. The ride is super comfortable without the frame losing stiffness. I´m 80kgs and never had a problem with flex. Also the bonded tubes are still well bonded. I can´t imagine you´d be able to unbond them if you tried.I´ve bough a titanium bike which takes guards and a rack as my all-rounder, and unfortunately haven´t got room for both bikes. I´ll miss it though :(
It´s in good condition with the usual light scratches for a bike of its age. No cracks, dings, dents etc.
I´m 6´2" and it´s fine for me. I probably would fit a 60cm frame better though.
£450 o.n.o.
Collection only please. I live near Clapham Common or could meet in Grays Inn Road. -
Entered the Evans Ride It Sandown Park Sportive last Saturday.
It was ok but the the Surrey roads were in a terrible state, and because it was wet there were lots of potholes hidden in puddles.
Some guy broke two ribs and his collar bone....an oncoming 4x4 forced a group into the gutter where a giant pothole catapaulted him ove the handle bars. Both his wheels were wrecked as well. I noticed quite a lot of aggressive driving. I was in a small group that was overtaken by a whie van and oncoming traffic had to brake hard to avoid him driving straight into them. What itnisnwith everybody.
Ride wise, Whitedown Lane caught quite a few people out. It's a bit of a monster and I took the precaution of having two or three minutes rest before the climb. Only just made it!
It was my first event ridden on my new bike, an Enigma Etape. Really pleased with it. -

Hi
I bought this stem about four years ago, but never used it. I think it was fitted to a bike that was never finished. From memory I think I paid about a hundred pounds for it, and I´ve always believed it was a Nitto. Now I´ve come to sell it I can´t see a Nitto mark on it and the expander device that adjusts to hold it in place doesn´t look like the fluted type you normally see on a Nitto stem.
It looks quite like Cinelli stems but there´s no ´C´ on it, and there´s no gripper ridges to grip the bars.
Any info would be gratefully received.
