Thanks for the intel pifko! Well that's 2 ppl nodding at the rear cog now! Looks like I'll turn my attention to it. Another thing that im confused about was that I did a 'like for like' switch from a half link to a normal ss chain and there was no noise at all when it was running a half link..? Do you think it's worth me using half links from now on?
@ t.o. - thanks for the link bro

hi dooods!
I am doing a bit of detective work on what could be causing a constant grinding/click every time I cycle whilst on the bike...it doesn't happen when I spin the cranks whilst the bike is unmounted. In an attempt to help paint a fuller picture ive listed the following facts for you:
1) The chain line is straight.
2) The chainring teeth are slightly sharp as is the cog on the rear (am I right in thinking these need changing?)
3) Im running a brand new single speed Chain (not a halflink)
4) The click definitely comes from the drive side of the bikeI'd really appreciate your input to help me solve this mystery as there isn't a lbs near me and I have to rely on internets or library!!
A pal said that the click could be due to the rear wheel being slightly off angle to when the chain feeds into the cog teeth hence the click, but i've dabbled with angles and still click. Interestingly there isn't a sound when I cycle really slow..
confused.
Sorry for the story. lol -

Had this problem myself brought a new set crome cromoly forks off eBay that should do the job. There threaded to I'm guessing that's what you'll be wanting. Just gotta wait for them to arrive from America! :( hope I don't get taxed this time.
Cromoly forks from America? Can't you get em from UK or is it coz the price was cheaper?
I'll be the 'dad' then.
As you found it in a skip, unless you're very lucky, it's made out of gas pipe and doesn't fit you properly. I'd really just get it in to a rideable state, and if you do want to spend money on it, make sure it's on parts you can transfer over on to a new frame.
I really, really, wouldn't worry about the clearence on your front fork
Thnx for the advice ste!
The frame seems fine, no cracks or dings, but until I get it ridden I guess I won't know if it's a fit. Also youre correct about the transfer parts, part. I'll keep it in mind fo sho! -

You know what's your problem Nash Wan? you're talking too much, get out and ride that damn thing you called a bike.
I really want to, but it's a bit crap right now. I found it in a skip so it will need respraying! It's the only bike Ive got so I want to make sure it's all working great and built to size. Also there's no bottom bracket but I'll be able to sort that myself :]

It would attract the rim closer to the crown of the fork. You'd want to remove the magnet when the wheel isn't being turned or the wheel would turn egg shaped
Man you guys sure know your stuff, I ain't ever heard of this happening!
How much are the magnets? It seems cheaper than getting someone to cut down the forks -

@oz how would a magnet work on this?

Hope so man! It's pretty embarrassing riding with all that noise tbh! >.<
But still I'll have a look for a new cog coz it sounds like it needs changing from what's been said.
