I also roll my eyes at old audio grumpies on forums who tell people new kit is a waste of money and all this stuff was perfected decades ago.
I appreciate this is going way off topic but if you ever have a chance to try a John Linsley Hood class A transistor amplifier or a Mullard 3-3 class A valve amp with good transformers (please do) you’ll almost certainly change your viewpoint on that! However, and I know this is a really big however, without building your own, you’re unlikely to ever find one to find out. It’s the reason I built both of mine with period-correct carefully matched vintage components and, wow, they’re so very detailed and pure!

The car ones (e.g. 1/8 scale metal James Bond Aston Martin etc) do run until the end. It’s astronomically expensive to complete, usually works out well over £1000.
No idea how they gauge how many people are going to complete the project. Presumably they must get a certain number of people who start (even with good intentions) but don’t follow through to the end.

Fuck man, March 2023 since the last post in this thread. I’m ashamed. Everyone here should be fucking ashamed. We ARE wankers. We are THE wankers. The wankers who should be pushing this sub-wank shit, complete with Happy Meal toys and sticky ODI grips. What’s happened to you people? You and I are actually out there riding this shit. What’s happened to US?

Do you have a dosing ring? This has transformed the tendency of my shots to channel. Initially I got one to save a few seconds using a teaspoon to get the coffee from grinder container to basket, but actually you can give it a quick shake side-to-side to loosen the grounds from the container which also breaks up the clumps and when you dump it into the basket it goes in almost completely level. Tamp lightly with the ring in place, tap the side to get the stuck grounds to fall in and then do your final tamp.
Key thing is not to bang the tamp down in one go. This was something important Steve Peel said years ago on here: don't bang it down in one go. Tamp lightly, back off and have a look and check your puck, adjust your angle or whatever and then go in for your final tamp. I think this is a very important skill to learn rather than relying on a specific piece of kit to control your tamp.

Before I attempt any percussive maintenance, any ideas how I can remove the steam arm assembly from the boiler? I've removed the bolts but it's still stuck.
It is stuck in with scale. Tap it lightly left and right and it’ll eventually free and you’ll be able to wriggle it out. It’s got an O ring too which is helping it stick and might need replacing 👍

Taking a rebreathing test raises the carbon monoxide level in your blood to just under 6%, says Lundby. You would go about your normal day with levels of about 0.5% just from exhausts and pollution, while a smoker’s is about 8%. For a normal adult, after a rebreathing test levels would be at 2% by the next morning and back to normal within the day, even quicker if you exercise during that time.
I knew it! I’ve been banging on for years that taking up smoking would make you faster. It’s quite simple: smoking 20 a day blocks your lungs up a bit and the smoke has less oxygen in it which is a bit like altitude training. Think how efficient your lungs have to become after a few years of hard work from that! You simply stop smoking a couple of weeks before competition so you can cough it all back up and clear your lungs and, hey presto, super strong clear lungs! Look at all the old Tour winners, they all used to smoke.

£658 + £175 = £833.
I think that's pretty Golf Club, personally.

Oh dear, Jonnie Peacock is not confident.
