for anyone interested, I'll be riding the prologue, and starting at 8.
I'll hopefully share some load with some quite strong guys I've met this year who are starting at the same time, until yorkshire at least where they will drop me at the first sign of a gradient greater than 10%.
weather forecast looks almost perfect for riding.
RE: Garmin charging, I will be using a hub, but previously have used one of these ,and some re-useable vecro zip ties to fasten it under my stem, to charge a garmin 705. works a treat and has the obvious AA battery advantage.
Black Portable Battery Powered Travel Charger for Apple: Amazon.co.uk: Electronicsalso have used it to charge my phone before.

I'm starting to feel really paranoid about anybody who tried to communicate with me now.
......on the same subject, hi to alex who I realise now I sort of blew off at the start, having had 3 hours sleep after being out at a DnB gig on Fri night - then being slightly thrown by failing garmin.
I was a bit of a cock I think.
spent the night hoping to spot some familiar faces and doing my best to chase down a friend who left probably 2 hours before me. he arrived at the beach an hour before, but had a nice cup of black tea waiting for me.
thanks to fortune for the following spottos:
- the couple on the tandem with the music and the matching leaopard print onesies. rockin.
- chainbreaker, who I met en route and chatted to for a while. nice guy. was a little jealous of his speaker shizzle.
- the guy in all black smoking a dart at the bbq/buttie stop about 15 miles from home. CUNT sticker on the wheels. proper too cool for school. I was the wanker in the Jolly/jollj jersey looking at you thinking....."youre a bit too cool".
- the guy I raced at the end who had ridden to the start from norwich. carbon everything and roadie to the max, but with 240 in the legs he beasted me over the last 3 miles, despite being a little grey (est 50 ish).
- anyone I saw and forgot.
Thanks to skully for apologising profusely re the lack of tea.

A friend and I were 14 and 15. surprised there was a 16 tbh - we left about 15 mins after the start.
Friend had a disaster and lost his phone and wallet after 1st CP. managed to find the phone but the wallet is MIA. Needless to say he packed.
shame as some company would probably have made the difference.
X rated rides are fkn lonely if youre solo.still cant really get over how unappealing that route was. there was about 20 miles from shaftesbury that were nice, but It felt like a route that should have been started at midnight and ridden through, with quieter traffic levels.
the drivers in the SW really dont like or respect cycles.
bit frustrating to look at the parqour and realise that the route got a lot better after exeter.
but still dont regret packing
Glad to hear Ed is ok

I'm ok, but there wont be any HAC points from my effort.
tbh the route is a bit....... shit.
It seems like a good warm up to the mersey 24. Lots (and lots) of heavily trafficked A-roads. I got near the front of the pack, saw no one for about 6 hours, got run off the road (A30) by trucks 3 times, andon the approach to Exeter started asking questions like "what the fuck am I doing this for??"
It was hot, it was no fun. Worst of all I was starting to question whether I even wanted to ride LEL. That was the final straw, and I packed with about 280 in the legs.
Came home to my pregnant wife, slept in my own bed and watched ventoux today. dont regret it a lick.
No word from Ed though. Hope he's ok.
I asked about - the guys in the crash hit a massive drain/hole at he back of a pack (not called or pointed out), but the descriptions didnt sound like him. Think he might just be lying low.
hope so

Broken spoke has scuppered my Buzzard :( Sorry Ed/Zanda, have a great ride,
I think skimping on buying a new set of spokes and using the old ones when I changed rims (different type of rim, similar spoke length needed) has caused them to fail prematurely, that's the second one since I swapped a few months back.
Bah!
what wheel - front or rear?

Oh dear. Sorry to hear that mate.
In other news, there's a nice bargain audax frame going on a bin now for a medium to tall person:

dynamo solution rules btw. so good to be able to use the backlight at night without being worried about getting stranded.
