My mtbs always had the saddle at full height. When I lived in Scotland I was riding at Mabie, Ae, Dalbeattie etc, and rode anywhere I could find when I was younger. I just never even thought about dropping my saddle.
My DH bikes were lower because they only went downhill. But any of my other mtbs had the saddle at full height all the time.
I barely get to touch dirt these days though as I'm always working. But I think if I was building this Starling I'd also have put a rigid post on it.

But don't forget, not everybody changes their saddle height to go downhill. I know I never did. My downhill bike was the only bike I ever had a different saddle height on.
But, to each their own.👍🏻

So they're not a must then. You just prefer them for your own personal preference based on the fact that you DO prefer to drop your post at the top of descents etc? 😉

What's changed exactly about riding a bike on dirt that makes a dropper post a 'must' now?
We managed fine without them for decades riding the same terrain.
I'm not disputing that they have a use, but they're certainly not essential by any stretch.

To be fair it's harder with eewings as there are so many 'splines' and they always move as you're trying to hold them together and tighten at the same time. 😁

Although I'd consider putting the cranks in line with each other. 😁

Yeah I was able to uncheck a lot of stuff that I don't use anyway, so hopefully it'll have increased the battery life by a few hours.

That said though... The new upgrade to the Hammerhead Karoo supposedly gives 3 different battery settings that 'supposedly' can increase the maximum from 15hrs to 35hrs!

I have one. Pre-ordered when it was first announced. Didn't get to use it before I had to send it back for the free upgrade to the version where the tabs on the back don't snap off if used with certain mounts. Now haven't had a chance to use it since I received it back. 🙄
It's not as 'nice' to use or look at screen wise as my karoo 3...but I bought it as a back up, or for whenever I get a chance to do some multi day stuff. Purely because of the battery life.
