I'm hoping someone on here can help! I've recently built up a 531 frame with some modern components, albeit with down tube shifters. Trouble is, when I ride on even the slightest gradient or when I push off at the lights the gears shift down the block leaving me grinding along in a big gear! I've noticed even a slight tug on the cable at the downtube will shift the lever into the next sprocket, the derailleur is screwed in tight, I've tried it with two different levers with the same result. The hanger looks straight and the chain looks like it's in a straight line from sprocket through the jockey wheels, and I've experimented with different chain lengths with the same result, anyone got any other ideas?

I have a Claude Butler Majestic frame size 25" for sale, Reynolds 531 frame & forks. There is some small patches of surface rust but nothing serious at all, the frame hasn't really had much use and has spent most of it's time stored in a shed. Bottom bracket, which is running smoothly, and headset included, although the chrome on the headset is quite rusted. I can include the original Wienmann centre pull brakes for an extra £10 if desired. £45 for the frame and forks if collected from Aberdeen, or I can send via Parcelforce 48 for an extra £25

I've picked up an old SR Silstar crank with some very nice looking SR chainrings, however I noticed when I spun the cranks on the donor bike that their is a wobble by a few mm in the ring. I can't see any impact damage either on the ring or the crank itself, the wobble seems to be at the same place on the inner ring too, so question is were these made with a very poor tolerance to straightness or has something gone horribly wrong? And any opinions whether it will be ok to run on the bike?

Not local anymore, at least not permanently.
I had to look up "middlefield" as I know it as manor. It used to be very bad, admittedly but has improved in recent years quite a bit. I wouldn't class Northfield(apart from byron) tilly or torry as deprived. Complete shitholes but not deprived.
I still don't understand how this has anything to do with a golf course and hotel out at balmedie?
As a resident of Middlefield until 2010, and a resident of Tillydrone I can confirm you are talking out your arse!
As for your last question, it all went downhill from post #48......... -
Where are these deprived areas? A lot of Aberdeen may look deprived but quite often the people who live there are not.
I take it you're not local before you ask? May I point you in the direction of Middlefield, one of the most deprived areas in the whole of Scotland! Huge unemployment, chronic anti social behaviour, the housing situation there is horrible as the council haven't invested there in years due to a new road supposedly going through part of the area, still waiting for funding to do that though......
Other areas you could include are Northfield, especially the Byron area, Tillydrone, and parts of Torry, spend some time here, open your eyes and see what's around you....... -
I've never counted the amount of Range Rovers in Aberdeen, I am familiar with the better off areas, and I didn't actually say zero oil revenue stays in Aberdeen!
I still stand by my statement that the vast majority of people in and around Aberdeen wanted this golf course prior to the commencement of building work starting, that has obviously changed now with Trump becoming a hate figure after throwing a strop over a windfarm that would be visible from the course, along with all the stuff that came out with the tripping up trump movement.
One thing I do agree with Eightball about is the spread of wealth is extreme, while there are some very rich people in the city, there are some of the most deprived areas in Scotland here too, which backs up my original statement that the area has been underfunded for years! -

Huge local support? How do you know this? Because the Press and Journal and the Evening Express had some 'poll' or some vox pops?
Well living in the area kinda gives me a good idea of local opinion! I only met two people opposed to it when it was in the planning stages, that I would say is pretty huge local support!
-
It was a beautiful area. Alex Salmand should be fucking shot in the face WAC
To put a bit of balance on the debate, the golf course proposal had huge local support (obviously outwith the Menie estate residents). The local press portrayed those against the bid as lunatic tree hugging weirdos, the two councillors who were vehemently against the bid were kicked out of their party, and much prosperity was promised to the region. When you add in the fact the area has been underfunded for years, Aberdeen is still waiting for a bypass that has been in the planning stages since the early 1950s, and all the ingredients were there for Trump to get his way. Thankfully the local press have been found out to be the corrupt scumbags they are now before they supported more destruction on behalf of large corporations.

Yes indexed levers, I've actually tried with two different levers but both had the same problem, and secured plenty tight too!
